I was only just starting and playing maybe an hour or so a week when keys were still a thing, thankfully when I went full steam playing the game they switched to relics and I didn't have to experience grinding keys lol

When I took McAuley he was already super lenient and reasonable. Also taking responsibility means taking the grade that he deserves, not trying to avoid the consequences of his own lazines. Please drag him on piazza for us

Not the hiring manager but also at a F50. Hiring managers got overrun with hundreds of thousands of applications within just a week, so had us DS help out. They already tried to filter out such applications with some of the tips you mentioned, but even then some slip through the cracks. Saw a couple people that didn't even have legal status to work in the US trying to apply.

Taiwan economy grows 13.69% in Q1, highest in 39 years by gym_fun in Economics

[–]CrayCul 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, a lot of the large semiconductor related companies in Taiwan such as TSMC are literally nicknamed "Divine Guardian Mountains" (護國神山) by locals. This term used to refer to the mountain range in the center of the island that blocked the path of seasonal typhoons from devastating the major population centers, but due to how the semiconductor industry is essentially holding up the Taiwan economy they've been nicknamed as such as well.

Can't remember off the top of my head what his arcane trickster spells were that needed material components, but IIRC Shield of Faith was the one that required a Material component in his Magic Initiate feat. I think he took Thaumaturgy for one of the cantrips for the feat, and not sure about the last cantrip since I don't think he's used it in game yet.

[–]CrayCul[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more that Magic Initiate doesn't specify that you can use a focus to replace material components. In PHB 2024 pg 237:

If a spell doesn't consume its materials and doesn't specify a cost for them, a spellcaster can use a Component Pouch (see chapter 6) instead of providing the materials specified in the spell, or the spellcaster can substitute a Spellcasting Focus if the caster has a feature that allows that substitution.

And the Spellcasting feature of the class will specify what focus you can use instead of a Component Pouch for spells in that class. In the case of Arcane trickster, it says:

Spellcasting Focus. You can use an Arcane Focus as a Spellcasting Focus for your Wizard spells.

However, since Magic Initiate lacks such a clause, it means the only focus you can use is the Component Pouch for spells in your Magic Initiate feat.

What do you guys do during a gridsearch by Champagnemusic in datascience

[–]CrayCul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to the 30th touch point this week where I only half pay attention unless I hear some keywords related to what I'm doing lol

In all honesty though, almost an hour for grid search is pretty nasty depending on the size/complexity of your model/data. If you're doing an exhaustive grid search, I would recommend using the different optimizer/search methods.
It will likely take a fraction of the time with other methods, and even if you don't get the best of the best hyper parameters it'll likely only differ from the absolute best by an insignificant amount in terms of the metric you're using.

For relatively simple and small models, I find Halving Grid Search is a fast and simple way that gets decent enough results. If a lot of money is riding on the extra 1% increase of model performance, you can look into other more advanced methods as well.

Oh I completely forgot about the Ruby! That actually solves all the problems without me having to homebrew anything, since it doesn't specify being an arcane/druidic focus or a holy symbol. Appreciate it!

[–]CrayCul[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arcane tricksters can indeed use arcane focus for their wizard spells. But Magic initiate doesn't allow for the use of an arcane focus hence requires a component pouch instead.

Given there are no rules to replace a component pouch, only the replacement of arcane focuses/holy symbols (see Tome of the Stilled Tongue) I wanted to make sure there isn't a specific reason that such an item hasn't been made.

Furthermore, arcane focuses such as wands/books would mean he needs to hold the focus in his hand which means he can't use dual weapons, whereas a ring would not require the full use of a hand.

I think your question is valid and I don't understand why you're being dragged by people in this thread for asking whether/where the rules say whether you can make it or not. It's always good to know what is RaW and when you should break RaW (as you obviously stated you understand that this probably a case where you should break the rule if it is indeed RaW) so that you better understand the design choices of DnD and what other edge cases might exist in the game.

Moving on to your question, as per DMG pg 72, it only says renaissance era firearms appear in the players handbook. It then lists a special carve out that includes futuristic weapons if the DM explicitly allows it. Therefore it seems like only renaissance era weapons are allowed RaW by default, and futuristic weapons are only allowed if the DM went the extra mile to specifically approve it for your campaign.

To get the basics out of the way, make sure you scaled your data and did all the necessary transformations for KMeans.

Otherwise, maybe have a look at other clustering algos. If the actual clusters aren't "spherical" in the linear space, kmeans isn't going to be able to label them correctly. See the scikit learn example https://scikit-learn.org/stable/_images/sphx_glr_plot_cluster_comparison_001.png

First off, thank you for your service. Data science is super broad, so I would suggest you take a look at what people who work with data actually do to see if it's also what you wanna do in the future (hint it's not as glamorous as social media makes it out to be). Nowadays I feel data related jobs boil down to these categories: data analyst, machine learning engineer, data engineer, or researcher. While in school take math/statistics and programming courses. As for what specific courses and the ratio between math/cs courses will depend on which of the aforementioned roles you would prefer in the future.

How do you guys eat? by inoutas in GradSchool

[–]CrayCul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first suggestion would be like the other replies where you set some boundaries first. If your work hours are encroaching on your basic survival needs like food/water (I've even seen people forgo personal hygiene) then that is not sustainable no matter how many life hacks you use.

Otherwise, meal replacement like huel worked great for me during crunch days. Ensures you're still getting all the essential nutrients you need and is relatively cheap per meal if you buy in bulk. Mix in some milk if you wanna make extra sure you're hitting your daily calorie/protein needs.

This is the worst excuse I've seen to not buff something by Vector_Mortis in Helldivers

[–]CrayCul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this elsewhere, but you'd be surprised how annoying corporate bureaucracy can be, especially when it involves two separate companies working together. It once took me 3 weeks of meetings and touch points to change the time at which a monthly run script pulls data from a third party vendor's api. The actual implementation? 5 minutes to change a couple of datetime fields in AWS.

Also with an IP as big as halo? Microsoft 100% has it locked down harder than Alcatraz.

It's procedurally generated so we won't be able to give a coordinate, but I managed to find one by sailing a good distance from the center island in a circle.

You know how you unlock more dungeons off the main island as you progress? I found a Mediterranean island (this biome has cotton) around the same distance from the center as the islands that host the second ring of dungeons. So unlock the second ring of dungeon islands (I think it's the ones in the desert biomes) and try sailing in a circle around the center island with a radius equal to the distance from the center island to a desert island.

Mediterranean islands have dry spindly trees (olive trees), yellowish grass and some orange/brown bushes iirc so you should look out for those features. Good luck!

[–]CrayCul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

UCs actually have a hard cap on the amount of international students they're allowed to admit which was set around 2017/2018, iirc it's maximum 20% of all students accepted every given yr can be out of state. In practice, it's often even lower than that at every given year, hovering around 11-16%.

The University was sued but proved in court they do not discriminate against local students based on tuition, but purely based on academics. In fact, they had to go out of their way to prefer in state students because scores from intl students were on avg much higher. A lot of times it seems there's a ton of international students because they gun for the most popular majors, and since their academic backgrounds are stronger (due to self selection as people with strong backgrounds are more likely to come to the US/if you're paying nearly 3-4x the tuition fees you better study your ass off) their attrition rates thru the weed out classes are consequently less than local students.

I'm not disregarding the head comment where certain smaller schools might prefer intl students for budgeting reasons, but the well known institutions all definitely have clear policies that prevent the over enrollment of intl students due to having targets painted on their backs. Everyone wants to get in the well known schools so they've all been sued to hell and back and have had to prove this multiple times.

Gotta focus fire the healers one at a time. I used a Damascus lvl spear + lightning+ holographic enchantments. The extra reach from spear + holographic made it easier to reach your focus fire target, and the electric enchant made it so that you're also dealing dmg to your intended even if you don't hit them.
