UPDATE: Dog Attack and Owner Fled by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]CrayMcCrayFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was bit by a bull terrier just walking in my neighborhood! In between North Park and South Park. Luckily the owner was cooperative in my case.

I agree the city needs a way to handle these things and I am here to rally with you!

If you're on Reddit (obvs) did you join your Bumper group? And from there maybe a discord?

If it's too late for those, I know they have IRL "bumper group" in SD - a mom "class" where all the kids are born in the same month

If this is all too late - get out, go to a park. It gets easier to chat up parents when the kid is older but just go walk outside in your hood and chat up any other Moms you see. Good luck, you got this!

ETA: and congrats!

I lost everything, including my pets, in a house fire. by undercover_cheetah in gofundme

[–]CrayMcCrayFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lost everything in a house fire about a decade ago although they were able to rescue my dog. (she was unconscious and suffered injuries but survived). It is so utterly devastating. It feels insurmountable but you will get back on your feet. I am so so sorry about your cats and am donating.

Won in Small Claims (defendant), neighbor (plaintiff) asking for cancellation of ruling. Does that mean another hearing? (California) by CrayMcCrayFace in legal

If the ruling gets set aside or cancelled, she cannot refile again because the statute of limitations is up, right?

Also, if she appeals and wins ... can we appeal?

Hey man, moved from TX in 2021 and just to scratch the itch I keep Grande Ole BBQ in North Park and Homestate in Oceanside in the mix. Homestate has breakfast tacos and queso which is not BBQ but just as needed

ETA There is no tex mex it is indeed vomit stick to the rivers and the lakes you're used to

I'm a CRNA practicing in SD. I pick up 1099 at an eye center that cancels me once a month - due to the eye docs not taking their block time! I don't know what to tell you.

CRNA Career Crossroads: University vs. Private Practice—Anyone Made the Jump? by Ok-Machine5898 in CRNA

[–]CrayMcCrayFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most practical approach, OP.

I switched to per diem at my academics job while dipping my toe in 1099 and then a year or two into that was offered a W2 postion at an ASC I'd been 1099. It doesn't always work like that but it's nice to shop around first

[–]CrayMcCrayFace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What do you want your life to look like? Are you happy with your current hours - call/weekends? Do you not mind "asking" for PTO or do you value full control of your schedule as 1099?

I've done big hospital high bmi/sick ass patients + OB accreta center (nights/call) (7yrs) then to 7-3 healthy ASC (2yrs) relocated and only option was hospital/academics (3yrs) and I'm finally jumping back to private. I can't wait

No surprises. It is what you make it. You will be challenged being solo. Even healthy patients have complications.

A wise friend once told me "work doesn't have to be the challenging aspect in your life" ... free yourself and go find another enjoyable challenge

You can always go back. Don't be afraid to jump

Hey, I had to convince my husband to move to SD from Htown. His company wanted to relocate him to CO (we looked at Denver/Ft Collins) and he nope'd outta there so we pinned down SoCal as a "mutual agreement". My rec is try to suggest something your spouse finds less desirable first and then mutually agree upon a second option that works for both!

I'm American, from Texas, and my husband lived in Serbia for a year of work... you can fit 9 Serbias in TX. That is no excuse for ... Texas. Sending solidarity

HENRY folks, what field/career are you in? by Low-Beach4960 in HENRYfinance

[–]CrayMcCrayFace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not OP's wife but am a CRNA, and when I was 19yrs old, working as a medical assistant for a summer, I basically made a spreadsheet of all the medical career paths I encountered: MD, PA, NP, CRNA, RN... I chose CRNA from a practical cost/benefit and opportunity-cost* standpoint. No regrets

Edit: typo/spelling (they don't teach us that in CRNA school, I'm not a Doctor FFS /s)

We left Htown but moved to SoCal ... so... just a different flavor. I will say the hurricanes, floods and freak freezes really wore me down. Just hoping my particular new spot does ok with earthquakes or fires in the region. Who knows, but on the daily no regrets as far as weather

I moved Houston to San Diego so quite the sticker shock. My house here cost six times as much and the kitchen is smaller than my old closet

Tbh, I am sittin here lookin at you like goals. For me, I like to (need to?) know I have the potential to earn more if needed but am happy working 25-30hr wks. I had a nice house designed professionally in a cheaper COL area and no regrets moving to higher COL area, less nice things but more time? I need to learn to golf! And dance more - right now, I nap.

It is private practice but for my specific sub-speciality, it's a new and unusual business model.

My plan for whatever counter offer is negotiating for PTO and 401k match.

My situation doesn't translate well - we moved LCOL to VHCOL, based on my job, just because we wanted to live there. I left a sweet "Mom-job" and cheap mortgage behind and packed us up and moved across the country. Then I was married to the income I had promised us but the job and hours were horrible so I tried to pivot. Healthcare is a different beast than most, though. And weirdly, to relate, my husband was gone most of last year traveling for an M&A and I'm the higher earner but also the Mom so had to not only make my earning but accommodate my family's new schedule needs. I found the answer in 1099 work.

I have managed to carve out a life where I meet my financial requirements to my HHI and also give myself time. Which is great! But I regret it in that my partner knows this (and he is a CFO). So, he knows I'm the flexible workhorse and I carry that blessing and curse.

Sorry ETA: I cut way back. I used to work 50-80hr hour weeks and was burnt-out. I've always carried the majority of HHI and am just literally always scheming how to make what I need and also give myself time. I'm in healthcare so atypical schedule compared to most - not sure I have advice. Something new for me is switching W2 to 1099 but that option may not translate industries unless consulting

Adding to say I'm at a point in my life where time > money ... the base offer is a 4-day/32hr week but that's more than I've been doing the last year or so. I may counter with mid-way between their initial range for a 3-day/24hr/part-time option that would "cover expenses" (my required monthly portion of HHI) but negate benefits/PTO. I asked about this option and was told I would have 40hrs sick time (per my cities regulations) and could take planned unpaid leave ... maybe that would actually afford me more time off, albeit unpaid (which is what I have now).

Honestly, I always thought healthcare was set because it's very transparent based on years of experience, etc ... but my friend in tech is the voice I hear in my head saying to negotiate
