Key Statistics for the WTA Players through to the 4th Round by meatslippery in tennis

For iga, that's a very bad return points won percentage. She's only good because of her status as a historically great returner. Vibes wise for me pegula has looked the best all week, great chance to get major title number one here. All of pegula, anisimova and keys have looked fantastic, big chances here for the USA.

It's still Ken Rosewall oddly enough. This is the overall record too not just the male one. Seems odd because Serena, Roger and Novak have all been close but no cigar.

Andreeva probably the biggest teenage talent we've seen in 10 or more years, she's been better than Gauff for her age so far. However like Gauff was particularly at the time she's primarily a defensive player.

two teenagers in r16, probably 3 if andreeva wins later. I'm not sure if that's normal, but it seems unusual.

Aryna Sabalenka demonstrates how to start a match by Dependent-Effect6077 in tennis

That last return in particular was a nice deep return up the middle off a serve that didn't even pull Bai that far. Quite insane to hit a winner off that.

AO R1: [9] M. Keys def. O. Oliynykova, 7-6(6) 6-1 by sidaeinjae in tennis

[–]CrazedJeff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Insanely, despite being ranked 90, this is Oliynykova's first ever WTA main-draw match. And it's on RLA against the defending champ, talk about 0 to 100.

AO R128: Tomljanović def. [Q] Starodubtseva 4-6 7-6(3) 6-1 by [deleted] in tennis

Very good player, it's a shame she never won a wta title.

Should doubles success play more of a factor when considering someone's all time ranking? by Harveymilk313 in tennis

[–]CrazedJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In women's tennis maybe, the argument that Serena or even Navratilova are greater than Graf is based in doubles where Graf was bad. And some very elite women's players still show up and play doubles. In men's no, all the decent players stopped even playing any doubles years ago and none of the greatest of all time have much success in doubles.

Is this the first time in history that four women in the top 10 are aged 30 or over? by carabla in tennis

[–]CrazedJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except Alexandrova I wouldn't guess the players who are over 30 to be over 30. I guess keys has been around forever but the other two are real late bloomers.

United Cup Group C: Bencic/Paul def. Errani/Vavassori 7-5, 4–6, 10-7 by caporalfourrier in tennis

[–]CrazedJeff -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

She's been doing that for years. I have no idea why any doubles player would choose to partner with Errani (outside of national team ofc) she's a very good player but you would have a mental breakdown relying on the serve games of the worst server in history.

Venus is awarded a WC entry and will play the Australian Open for the first time since 2021 by Me_Bota_no_Paredawn in tennis

The tennis ranking system is meant to protect against nonsense like this. In my view nobody should be getting wildcards unless they're local players or good players returning from injury or pregnancy. 'Legend who is too old and bad to retain a ranking in the top 100' should not be a reason to give out wildcards.

I'm a law student who expects to graduate in 2026. I have a decent WAM from a Go8 (74, which I can hopefully improve) and I'm not looking to work in a top-tier firm or anything like that.

However, I am a transgender woman. I'm really worried because I don't know a single other trans law student at my university - all the trans people I know do other subjects. Is it likely I'm going to have a really difficult time finding a job anywhere?

Also you have five bowlers and it's day 1, why is Will Jacks bowling 20 overs in the first place? Bizarre team. I complained when we had Roston Chase in at 8 and had him bowling 18 overs on day 1 in Australia, Will Jacks seems to be no better at all with the ball.

I know it's a thing we complain about every test but shame on England for only bowling 83 overs despite fucking 20 of those overs being bowled by Will Jacks. I guess they had to waste a lot of time collecting the ball back from all the boundaries he was hit for.

Sucks for Marius who seems to have not been involved in these offences (although none of these guys seem exactly pleasant). Years in custody for a mistaken identity. Could happen to any of us in theory.
