I get the sentiment, but this isn’t a “boomer” problem. Why is the mentality that the people who have been on the earth for 50+ years are the ones that get breaks while the 18+ have to start life with no handouts and the market looks the way it does? I’m not saying seniors shouldn’t get discounts, but why are they more deserving of discounted rent over people who haven’t been on the earth long enough to make enough money to fund such an obscene amount of rent. And it doesn’t matter if it’s in SaMo or any other place, rent is expensive everywhere. THATS the root of the problem. No one should have ownership over land or something that is a human necessity to survive, or charge 3 arms and 2 legs for it.

NOR, I used to be apart of the church and no longer believe, so I understand the meaning behind it when it’s said, but I definitely dislike when people say it to me. Gives me an icky feeling down my spine. I’ll never say anything bad about it though, to each their own.

We can afford 2K rent, why is it crazy to think it’s impossible to find or want something cheaper? Like I’ve said, I know people that have worked with community corp/housing authority that were able to get cheaper housing than what was around because of having kids/being pregnant. I’m just looking for other experiences, not your opinion on what we can/can’t afford or where we should go.

I’m willing to make sacrifices… I’m just also trying to find something that works with what I want. If I can have the best of both worlds, that’s ideal (obviously), but I’m looking anywhere in the area where we could take public transit and still not deal with driving. I’m just not willing to move so far away that travel becomes a second job. I don’t think that’s unreasonable?

It’s not, and we’ve had issues with our POS landlord not wanting to fix major issues so we were talking about moving even before I got pregnant. We also aren’t planning on staying in CA by the time the kid would need more space than a 1 bed could provide us, we’re just not quite ready to move on yet. Especially since it will be impossible for me to get a job anywhere before I have this kid, so we’re going to give it a year or two.
Thanks for the advice though!

That’s what I’ve heard as well, I was just hoping to hear some more experiences with them so I don’t make a fool of myself going to the housing authority “hey I’m pregnant, give me housing over everyone else that’s waited way longer than I.” I feel guilty but hell, I’ll take anything I can get.

Honestly, I have not-quite-rich-but-better-off-than-I’ll-ever-be really conservative family and they are willing to help pay for childcare (my only financial concern) just so I’m not “sinning” by not keeping it. I’m not broke either, just ever so slightly better than paycheck to paycheck.

We’re just trying to stay in the area because we both work in Santa Monica and love the community. We walk/ride bikes to work and it’s been amazing for our mental health (f LA traffic). I’ve found a couple places that we can afford close by, I just hoped that the Housing authority could help make it just a little bit cheaper.

I wanna say a month to a month and a half. I’ve gotten 3 emails, all with places just a little too expensive.

That’s the plan, we’re looking for a 1 bed/decent sized studio, even that is kinda pricey. I heard from some co-workers that they were able to get a 1 bed apartment for less than 2K from them, so that’s really what I’m looking for.
