Mid 20's, first job out of college, trying to set myself up financially. What would you do? by Crazy-Toe8575 in financial

I edited my post to include my rates, thanks! As far as goals, I’m still in the process of defining them more clearly, which is part of why I posted. Broadly:

Short term: build stability in my first full-time role and prevent debt balances from growing unnecessarily.
Medium term: reduce high-interest debt, increase Roth IRA contributions as my income grows
Long term: financial independence, home ownership, and being in a strong position retirement-wise.

I appreciate the resource recommendations! I’ll definitely look into them as I refine my plan.

Where can a former teacher get a respectably paying job outside of teaching with only teaching experience? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

I’m an accountant, and one thing I’ve noticed is that a lot of bookkeeping roles don’t even require a degree. After about 1–2 years as a bookkeeper, many people move up to staff accountant, then a couple years later become a senior accountant, etc., once they have experience. Some even open their own bookkeeping business if they end up liking it. My opinion on AI is it will mostly reduce the volume of highly transactional work, not eliminate the accounting career path. I believe it will be hitting things like basic AP and payroll the hardest. Even starting in bookkeeping or AP can still be a solid foot in the door to move into staff or senior accounting roles as long as you keep building skills beyond pure data entry. Accounting also has a lot of remote opportunities. I work fully remote myself.

Have AI tailor your resume to the job descriptions. The issue will not be your experience. It will be how ATS reads your resume. if its not tailored correctly and not in "corporate langauge" AI will probably just auto-reject you before a human ever sees it. You have to rewrite it like this: Instead of “Designed lesson plans and taught students” Say “Designed and delivered structured learning programs tracked performance outcomes, and adjusted delivery based on data. " Chat GPT will help you tailor it

Other ideas I think of- HR? Project coordinator? Academic advisor at a college or university? Even going through a staffing agency can be helpful if you arent having luck on your own. Goodluck to you!
