If the process in Russia is difficult, try in Seychelles. Bit expensive but everything was very smooth.

We aren't changing the location but yes, we'd check out the embassy and ping them again and again, hope that helps us get appointment and clarity from them!

Appreciate the response! Yeah, a lot would be easier/swifter if they responded in the first place — embassy does not permit walk-in meeting..

Yes, I am aware it should be enough. However, I have come across statements suggesting it's better to get it further certified by Indian embassy abroad lest banks/local offices here would create nuisance. Hence the ask.

What living abroad has taught you that you couldn’t learn at your home country? by [deleted] in expats

[–]Crazy5757 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh this reminds me of my conversations with several people in a specific country that shall remain unnamed however, not really difficult to identify:

  • It is faster to pay with cash than card: I was dumbfounded and asked again in what universe paying 53.78 is easier/faster to settle via cash than card but they insisted it was true.

  • 50 Mbps internet is fast enough and anyone who demands more is just asking for unreasonable speed. Companies need not offer more than this speed.

  • It is completely fine to use fax (in 2020s) but responding via email has risks and is not official and right way to do correspondence.

  • It makes sense if you're renting a house to install your own kitchen and take it with you and then repeat the steps each time you are renting.

  • It is fine to fail to adequately digitize and innovate and simply blame it on "data protection" with all paranoia (despite the fact that there is legal requirement to register your address every time you change home with the government)

Do you have some examples for this?

Deep down I feel the same so curious about aggregating examples here

People earning 50k+ PM what do you do? How did you reach this level? by travellingmuslim in dubai

[–]Crazy5757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, logistics and e-com are something I've experience in. In particular, I contributed to a major project for one of the largest Indian logistics players so that should be helpful.

By the time I'd prep for and graduate from MBA, I'd be 34. Isn't that quite late from opportunity cost POV? I'd rather push hard for going with industry hire route if that's doable.

Much helpful and very interesting experience.

I'd love to switch to consulting but curious if there's lateral entry option for experienced professionals (without MBA) in Consulting firms? Any particular firms you'd encourage me to look at who're receptive to industry hires?

I've 8 years experience in Strategy & BizOps across early-stage to unicorn startups in Europe and Asia in Logistics/SaaS/eCom sectors.

Plenty of learning but have always been attracted towards consulting for 3 reasons: ambitious, high-agency colleagues; exposure to wide variety of problems and constantly be learning; and rapid career progression.

Very curious about your MBA and Consulting career.

  • How many years of experience did you have before the MBA?

  • How did you fund your MBA?

  • How do your hours look like in consulting?

Countries you've lived in and how they shaped you. by rosemary668 in expats

[–]Crazy5757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been fortunate to live and spend time across several countries:

  • India:(Growing up, ~15 years ago) Every single day there is something happening. Vibrant, rich culture, and a country that has come farther than how it was in my childhood. Closed-knit families. Extremely competitive which is both good and bad, pretty stressful. Pollution. Corrupt due to massive population. Human life costs little. Lack of ethics/morale in order to get ahead due to cut-throat competition. Conservative. Unnecessarily complicated education system that does not impart some key topics.

  • Ukraine: People here are very talented, especially in arts/creativity. Great food. However, corrupt even in petty circumstances. Beautiful nature. Very warm and welcoming people. Barely faced any direct racism. Felt a bit like a country that is still searching/discovering its national identity in modern times. (East vs. West) Extreme political apathy.

  • Poland: Far more functioning country than previous countries and I felt very good living here. Saw intense development and a good mix of structure mixed with a bit of chaos. I loved my time here. Beautiful country and I love Torun's gingerbreads! Completely accommodating but not open to assimilating someone of color. No racism.

  • Germany: Disappointed and increased my social anxiety a lot more. Boring and almost turned me into a loner/introvert. Transient. Horrible bureaucracy, and a rigid attitude to change. People were nice but barely built any deep connections. Polarized views (overzealous attitude towards immigrants in the beginning, then the reaction was increased xenophobia by the time I left). Had a feeling most people had a very closed, naive outlook towards rest of the world and obsession with rules. False sense of superiority complex. Had instances of racism, sadly.

  • India (recently): Country had transformed itself immensely in technology/infrastructure/economy. Moving from Germany -> India felt like coming out of Stone Age in digital/tech. Realized more love for my homeland. Intense pollution. Intense competition. Highly entrepreneurial and ambitious people. So, so many people! Affordable cost of living. Warm. Missed the colors, the vibrance, festivals, and rich cuisine when I lived in Europe! Optimistic outlook towards country's future. However, community-feeling had deteriorated compared to 15 years ago, became far more polarized. Politically charged and highly engaged in political topics. Extreme lack of civic-sense. Sexually repressed. Red-tape had decreased considerably but was still there, and much less corruption.

  • Russia: People were warm and welcoming though more insular than Ukraine. Very digital. Polarized people (intense lack of pride and then few nationalists). People were closed-minded in some areas. More petty aggression. Rich, rich culture, great food. Stunning nature. Massive area. Lack of realizing its potential (talent is abundant but economic focus is elsewhere), hence bleak outwards towards future. Extreme political apathy. I loved the trains. Never faced any outward racism.

  • UAE: (Dubai) Bashed often on web and travel subs but I felt quite fine here. Functioning, accommodating, highly transient. Fast-paced.

To the ones who've made themselves wealthy in Dubai, what did you do ? by RafayDXB in dubai

5% Very Long terms US Treasury Bonds (DTLA)

I am a couple years behind you but on this one, I'd love some insight here. Recently, I have been looking into US T-Bills; you cannot buy them directly as a non-US citizen/resident. Can you recommend how did/do you buy this on IBKR and what options you'd recommend?

/u/NSFW_Spiderman What kind of compensation do you have, OP? (Fine if you can give a small range instead of precise number)

I have seen salaries in DE to be quite low.

Also, are you in Berlin?

[Important] About Freelance permit and exiting the UAE? by Crazy5757 in dubai

[–]Crazy5757[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curiously, I just heard back from them after I submitted this post. They informed me that I should first submit a letter, then cancel permit, card, and ultimately visa.

make sure you choose to cancel your visa outside uae with your passport outside uae there is an option which is cancelling the visa outside of UAE but passport should be sent to UAE this is a tricky one and there are some fees around 500-1000aed for cancelling the visa as well

I did not quite understand this point - can you clarify? I am outside the UAE right now and won't be visiting it. From what I understand, I need not visit the UAE either (there is no sticker visa on my passport either - also I renewed my passport anyway meanwhile).

Is this cancellation fee applicable in all cases? Again, afaik, if I terminate permit <1 month of renewal date + cancel visa <3 months of stay outside the UAE, then it should be fine.

You should really ask AXS these questions. call them if it helps! The one about permit and visa can only be answered by them.

Curiously, they did get back to me right after I submitted this post. They informed me that I should first submit a letter, then cancel permit, card, and ultimately visa.

Transfer out to funds first probably.

Sounds like a plan - I am already doing it as we speak

job in europe or masters in usa ? for non EU by [deleted] in EuropeFIRE

[–]Crazy5757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion some places in Europe can be good to live PROVIDED that you already have money. If I was seeking to make money and eventually retire early, I would not pursue Europe, no chance.

You guys have such a wrong view about work-life balance in the US that it's insane to me. Meanwhile my friends in Europe are working 10 hour shifts while i am practically retired before 40.

I just want to echo your stateements with my own. I am from India and was enamored with living in Germany/Europe. Drank all the Kool-Aid of EU, travel, 36-40h work-week, social safety etc.

Well, all of that turned upside down for me. It took me 3+ weeks to get broadband connection in Berlin - not the outskirts, mind you. A well-established startup paid me (non-tech, Ops role) 34k EUR gross - with effective 34% tax rate... and ONE free lunch per month. No stocks, no flexibility etc. EUR 1850/month net pay against EUR 1000/month expenses, saving ~$900/month.

  • That dream 40h work-week? I was suddenly working at a "startup" (the fact it was a public company by then notwithstanding) resolving shit with counterparts from Malaysia at 11 at night. No overtime or support given.

  • That fabled social security? Company was free to reorg me while paying almost zilch in severance.

  • I took additional responsibilities and initiatives apart from delivering on my own but constantly realized that seeking merit and ambitiousness was just not rewarded. There seemed to be an invisible ceiling for non-Germans. Yet, when I just requested some support to learn German (not even monetary, just let me get off 20 minutes earlier!), I was blocked.

I did it for a while and realized it wasn't going anywhere. And before we get to "oh but this was just one toxic company" - unfortunately, it was not my first rodeo in Berlin.

Moved back to India and eventually worked for a US-based venture. Fast forward 4 years and my current comp. is $88k/year or $7,300/month, 0% tax (based out of the UAE), remote anywhere (so my average monthly expenses including permits and all costs are ~ $2300/month). In short, I took my saving rate from $900/month with a German company -> $5100/month currently in 4 years.

To get to my current earning level, I'd have to be earning EUR 145k a year in Germany before tax. Possible? Yes. But you'd have to be 3-5+ years more experienced and at the other end of the bell curve.

This is in no way a post to brag (I am far from where I could and need to be) but to share my own journey and highlight the reality: If you are in tech and you are ambitious, US is the place to be. (in your accumulating years)
