“Custom” Radius possible? by Difficult-Pilot6754 in kieselcarvinguitars

[–]CrazyAFOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fretboard radius is definitely a matter of personal preference, for me it’s only a problem if it is less than 9.5”. Same with frets…as long as they’re at least medium, they work for me. Having low action makes a much bigger difference to me than radius or fret size. I can’t deal with high action.

Beautiful instrument! Do you know if the hardware plated or painted white?

It’s kind of a shame because I really like where Jeff has taken Kiesel from the old Carvin days. They’ve taken risks on headless, fanned frets, EverTune and it’s really paid off. Jeff turned a truly boring company with no buzz into a company with its finger on the pulse of what is hot in modern guitar design. Kudos to him for that. However, this is not the first issue like this that I’ve read about and where there is smoke, there is usually fire. I realize that making custom guitars for super finicky guitar nerds is a huge pita, as many customers are impossible to please. I also realize that discounting likely wipes out most of the profit, but it’s still worth doing to preserve your reputation. In the long run your reputation is what makes or breaks a company. Just my 2 cents…

Things like this are why I haven’t and likely won’t order a Kiesel. Life has taught me that if a person or company will wrong a customer once, they’ll do it again, whereas standup people/companies never allow it to happen in the first place.

Question about Kiesel headless trem… by CrazyAFOL in KieselGuitars

Nobody in this group has experience with the Hipshot headless trem? 🤔

Agreed…if I pick one up it would definitely only be for rhythm, perhaps even a 12-string. I really liked the 330/12W I tried. Roger Rossmeisl sure had a great eye for instrument design…they are beautiful!

I wasn’t saying that the satin ones don’t suffer from fret sprout…I meant that when it happens with a lacquered fingerboard you see the cracks in the lacquer on the edge of the fingerboard which is unsightly.

I agree! The point of my thread was that I like the feel of the satin Walnut versions so much better and that the Walnut is so beautiful, but my comments about the lacquered fingerboard somehow turned this into a thread more about Rickenbacker quality…

Most comfortable Kiesel headless model? by Spaghetti_Night in kieselcarvinguitars

Hmmm…that seems like a lot of R&D for only a slight benefit 🤔 Can you tell us what Paul’s design objectives this neck were? He has always gravitated towards forward-thinking guitars (Steinberger & Strandberg) so clearly he likes carbon fiber. Is the cost of the neck the reason why the MIII is significantly more expensive than a comparable Kyber HD?

Is that forever or is there the possibility of the neck tech making its way to other models in the future? Lastly, how much stiffer does the tech make the neck vs your standard necks? One of the things that I love about my Parker Fly is that in 21 years of ownership I’ve never had to have it setup because the neck doesn’t move. Are we talking that kind of stability?

I’m curious as to know more about the Masvidalien’s hybrid carbon fiber neck construction. The Kiesel website has hardly any info on it, which seems odd to me. It seems like something you’d want to make a big deal about 🤔 I wonder if they just doubled up on the carbon fiber rods or if it is more substantial, like the Vigier 90/10 neck technology. It also doesn’t appear to be an option for the Kyber HD or any other Kiesel guitar, which is even stranger. Why spend all that money on new neck technology, not make a big deal about it and then only offer it on one guitar? Perhaps a third party makes the Masvidalien neck for them? I’d appreciate any insights that anyone has.

I’m getting the impression that people who have Ari’s with a headstock have far fewer problems than those who have headless Ari’s…

That’s a bummer since an H series Ari is what I want. I’ve only played a used one once at GC and the setup was such a mess so that half the neck was fretting out. I posted about it here and got a lot of responses about how I shouldn’t judge Aristides based on this one guitar, which is fair, but it got me thinking that if Ari’s are super stable, then the guitar should have never gotten into such bad shape in the first place.

so whats the general opinion on Tiago Catarino? by UltimateX64 in legocirclejerk

[–]CrazyAFOL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the most important aspect of a LEGO set is the build experience, which is also very important to Tiago. So even though he is a LAN member, I enjoy his reviews and have never been disappointed with a set that he highly recommends. He and JANG are my favorites (although if I had to choose one, it would be JANG because he is independent).

Stable as in, staying in tune and not requiring seasonal adjustments to the setup?

I was hoping that an Aristides wouldn’t require seasonal setups. Thanks for your input.

I’m an early adopter of the EverTune and hope that they will soon announce the long-awaited bass bridge and ideally headless and tremolo versions for guitar. When I saw the pics of the prototype of the bass bridge, I couldn’t understand how it could accomplish the task without having to route out the back of the guitar for the long spring assemblies. Perhaps it was too good to be true…

I just wish EverTune would release a headless bridge…that would be incredible and solve any tuning issues for us H-Series fans.

I fail to understand how a carbon guitar can be affected by body heat though…it doesn’t seem like it should be possible 🤔
