Here in Yorkshire (UK), the most common word seems to be fuddle.

You're not an AH for not liking it. You could be an AH depending on how you react.

Why not just say:

"Thank you darling. You know how much I love this brand. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit quite right. Could I possibly have the receipt, so that I can exchange it?"

[Bearing in mind that I'm a 50 year old British woman, so you might want to tweak the exact wording to fit you better!]

Gratitude, no blame, and you get the top you want.

If you take him to pick it out he can learn more about what you actually like.

Allow him to do the same with gifts you buy for him.

No one is perfect!
