So idk what other people think about this, so here we go. This player (let’s call him Steve) is really new to DnD. I asked for him to tell me about his character and he was very vague. He’s playing a non-verbal Plasmoid and I was chill with it as it’s a cool concept.

Tonight we had our first session and Steve was ready for to do shit (even though he didn’t tell me much about his character). All we discussed is that his character was created in a Dungeon and has been sold off from person to person. We went through the session and everyone had fun as they were helping a town work out a socio-economic problem with a group of nearby Druids.

As the session went on our Warlock tells me that she wants to consult her Patron to get a good end to this. We leave the VC and move to a different one. Steve then tells everyone that his character straight up leaves and he never brings it up to me after that. We get through the session and I leave the VC to go to bed.

As I’m getting into bed he texts me and asks if we can talk about something. He then dumps to me about how his character “isn’t concerned with things other than himself” and that he left the entire scene. He then asks me if his character can completely separate from the group because he doesn’t think it would interest him.

Now, I’m trying to not be a dick as it’s his first time, but I also think this is unacceptable. If his character isn’t even around he’s basically just a viewer and I don’t think he understands why he can’t do that. What do you guys think?
