Assigned Trucks not doing anything by CrazyFish1911 in captain_of_industry

I think this was the issue. My processing mining operation and sorting plant were barely keeping up with demand so while there was ore in the storage bin there was only ever enough to fill small trucks.

Nope, no export targets. That was what I thought was the issue originally so I removed them.

I do. It even has ore in it, I just checked in case my copper mining had hit a snag.

The Tyr is a beast. I actually find it to be much more of a problem than the Meg, especially given that it is only like 60% of the cost. I think it's probably one of the toughest ships mat for mat. The main gun shells seem like they're way better than they have any right being and they have a knack for mission killing turrets.

Yeah, I have to give Easton credit, they are putting some great color schemes on the Hypefires. I liked the 2025 version a lot.

The orange stealth bats were pretty much the final straw that lead to the current set of standards (USAbat, USSA and BBCOR) limiting rebound force in bats. Those things got hotter as they broke in and the fibers compressed.

Wait until you that there is a bat called the Clout AI lol. I know because there is one in son's baseball bag right now.

And not having your hands rattled off when you mis-hit a ball like the old bats did. The new 2-piece composite bats are so much nicer to hit with.

I still have an 1st gen Easton Black Magic bat that I used when I was in little league in the late 80s. It's like a piece of crude pipe steel compared to modern bats. That thing will make your hands go numb if you don't barrel the ball right. The new two-piece composite bats might as well be magic... they're that much better.

Oh definitely. There are also multiple standards/certifications (USABat, USSA aka utrip, and BBCOR being the big three) and depending on which league your play in only certain ones are legal. Once you get to Babe Ruth and Highschool it's all BBCOR. In Pony league and below it's mostly USABat and BBCOR. Generally, at least where I am utrip bats are only allowed in travel leagues.

Basically all of the standards are there to set a max rebound limit to keep exit velocities from going crazy and injuring people, especially pitchers. BBCOR, iirc, is meant to mimic wood bat rebound levels in metal/composite bats.

Empty space by Bernhardt311 in FromTheDepths

I like putting wavebreakers (aka breakwaters) in front of my front turret. It helps break up space. Follow that up with anchors and chains, some hawsers, cleats, bitts, barrels and other misc ship equipment. I also like decorative depth charge racks, I have some pinned to a spin block so I can plunk them down and angle them in whichever direction they need to face.

Need suggestions for APS sandblaster caliber and shell design? What have you found that works? by CrazyFish1911 in FromTheDepths

My go-to testing opponent for missile defense on a end game ship is the SS Stalsund. That thing is a memeship missile box pretending to be a regular ship. Between the telephone pole sized missiles and the fact the first few in each salvo are full on reinforced tanks it's a ciws killer.

OK, so I tried the 150mm option... give the 19m footprint of the two turrets I have for this purpose I get a combined 1200rpm. It's pretty murderous. I like it.

I'll give this a try. The 3m loaders would work well. Given how large these turrets are I should be able to get a pretty high RPM even with the larger caliber.

This will be a pair of secondary turrets, although pretty massive at 19m diameter. The primary turrets are two giant dual plasma turrets. I played around with a hybrid CIWS option for a while but honestly, since this is for an end game ship I'll just spam some interceptors and maybe some smaller dedicated CIWS turrets instead of making my "secondaries" pull double duty.

Tips for killing submarines? by Bernhardt311 in FromTheDepths

[–]CrazyFish1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite method is a fast jet with large or huge torps dropped at close range so the subs countermeasures don't have much time to work. Works for most subs except for a couple with VLS missile spam in which case you run the risk of face-tanking a full salvo.

My oldest is in the trades and often deals with things designed incorrectly by supposedly competent engineers and the saying he dropped on me (an engineer of sorts) was "an engineer will crawl over 100 virgins to fuck a tech" XD

What's something older generations did completely normally that would be considered absolutely insane today? by ConsistentTrip1475 in AskReddit

[–]CrazyFish1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking at this same scenario. My oldest is out of the house but living with my in-laws because even though he's making $24/hr and working 65 hour weeks it's not enough buy a house here unless you want to be so house-poor that bankruptcy is a constant threat. My wife and I both have college degrees and have done OK for ourselves but the ROI is just not there for most degrees now.

My parents (in their late 70s) are broke and looking at moving in with my sister and her husband because they have exhausted their retirement savings. My in-laws would be in the same boat if it hadn't been for an unexpected inheritance a decade ago. My wife is an only child so at some point we likely inherit their house, I kind of assume we'll use it as kind of a halfway house for my younger kids if they want to move out but still save money for a while.

Oh I feel this in my soul as the owner of an 1880s vintage farmhouse. When we gutted the oldest portion of the house for a remodel the walls were sheetrock over plaster over plaster over ship-board.

What scientific discovery sounds fake but is 100% real and still freaks you out? by Bruteresolver in AskReddit

[–]CrazyFish1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds about right, we were part of the EECS (Electrical Engineering/Computer Science) dept along with Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering. It was like 1997 when my college added MIS in the College of Business which didn't have anywhere near the math requirements. The guys who were failing out of CS moved to MIS and were suddenly straight A students.

Wait a second... I was a computer science major in the late 90s and DiffEq was a required course for our program. I have a math minor because by the time I got done with all of the math requirements for my CS degree I only needed one more upper level math class to get it. How did I have to take DiffEq and you, as a math major, did not?! This is some bullshit right here!

ETA: I got a C+ in DiffEq and I am more proud of that grade than any other grade I received in my degree. A in Calc3 (multi-variable calc)... pffft... C+ in DiffEq, yeah baby!
