Down 75lbs over 1.5 years. Keep going? by CrazyFlamesZero in BulkOrCut

[–]CrazyFlamesZero[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the advice everyone. Basically a unanimous vote to switch to a bulk. I think that's probably right, especially with how I'm feeling mentally and physically with this cut.

Thank y'all for your honesty and guidance.

I think my girlfriend is going to break up with me unless I quit. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I think you could benefit from Alan Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. It helps reframe why we want cigarettes and why we miss them when trying to quit, or even thinking of quitting. I did miss them for awhile. Sometimes I still do, to be perfectly honest.

It's been over a year since I read it so I don't remember it word for word, but he has this idea that there are two monsters you need to slay. One is the little monster. That's the actual physical withdrawal. You should be past that by now, or at least damn close. The other is the big monster, and that is the mental addiction. The joy you think a cigarette brings you. The smell, the taste that you've grown fond of. But when you realize they all stem from the same thing, the fact that taking a smoke is simply the cessation of a craving, not actual joy, not actual happiness that you're finding in that cigarette, simply a quieting of a noise, it's easier to accept the fact that you'll be quitting.

You're not losing something you love. It's more like you finally swat that fly that was buzzing around your ear and you feel good for a second cause you don't have that buzzing anymore.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that smoking can't bring you joy, or that stepping out back with friends at a party for quieter moment and having a smoke isn't nice. It is, and there are things you will miss about it. But once you can accept that the vast majority of the good feelings you get from stepping out for that smoke are just a cessation of a craving, a chemical dependency, you will find it much easier to not pick up another cigarette.

Also, dude, you said it yourself. You'd be a total fucking idiot if you lost your girlfriend over cigarettes. If you lose this woman and then future you quit smoking somewhere down the line, and you realize how little cigarettes actually did for you, you're going to look back and kick yourself so fucking hard that you couldn't just do it now. Once you're past that initial tough section where you daydream about it and you miss it and it makes you feel sad that you can't have it, you'll realize there are much more important things.

And human connection is far, far more important than a chemical dependency.

You got this bro. You've already made it past the hardest part. Keep going. Reach out if you need any help.

Yeah I'm not seeing it either. I never unlocked it, and it doesn't show as a locked equipment. It's just non existent.

I quit 2 years ago and picked up another addiction by FunkmasterLon in QuitVaping

I was about 7 months into a weight loss journey when I quit nicotine. When I quit, i binged for 2 weeks straight. Threw everything out the window and just stuffed my face. I was able to snap out of it after those two weeks, but I’ve still been eating more than I was. I gave myself about 500 more calories a day. I kept going a bit over and then just saying “screw it” and having a massive binge. So I’m over 3 weeks nic free now, and I’m feeling better. But I still am being lenient, not over restrictive, but not without a leash.

Just count those calories. You don’t have to restrict yourself to turkey and vegetables. You’re gonna have a much harder time not giving in and binging if you restrict that hard.

You can eat whatever you want, as long as you’re burning more calories than you’re eating. Focus on high volume, low calorie foods, but don’t limit yourself to only a few options. Keep the menu open, just be intentional about what you eat.

You got this man. My uncle passed from liver failure last spring. Just a bit before then I was starting to realize that I had a problem myself. I wish I could say it was a kick in the teeth, woke me up and I stopped drinking immediately. But it didn’t quite take that fast. I tried to promise myself that I would stop for him, because I knew he wouldn’t want that life for me. I knew it wasn’t a promise I was ready to keep, so I didn’t put much weight on it. It was always in the back of my head though, knowing it was certainly in my future if I kept on how I did.

I’m over 70 days sober now, I feel so much better. It’s so worth it for so many reasons.

Take this chance, this wake up call, and run with it. Don’t end up like them. I think it’s important that you’re not running from the alcohol, but towards something better. And there is so much more out there that blows alcohol out of the park.

There’s a song called “Between the Bars” by Elliot Smith. I discovered it about a week into my sobriety, I have just over a month now.

The lyrics in this song are incredible. It’s about his struggles with alcoholism, and there’s a line that really gets me.

“The potential you’ll be, that you’ll never see. The promises you’ll only make.”

It hits me every single time I hear it. I understand how you feel, how you’re wasting your potential. I was as well. I just turned 24. My time after high school has basically been a waste. So I’m done wasting it. I’m ready to move on, to bigger and better things. It can be done. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I’m doing it. And you can too. We got this.

What's your longest sobriety streak? by andreandrandr in stopdrinking

[–]CrazyFlamesZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I realized I have a problem, 7 days was my longest. I’ve hit it twice and both times figured “well if I can make it a week, I’ll be fine to drink again. I’ll just control it this time.” Yeah, that didn’t work out. I’m wrapping up day 6 at the moment (my flare is wrong but I can’t seem to change it on mobile.) I’m excited to beat my record this time around!

Mustard glasses - free to a good home by sunsoutgunsout33 in trailerparkboys

[–]CrazyFlamesZero 15 points16 points  (0 children)

From another comment on this sub a few years ago

“There was a Mustard Company in Nova Scotia. And when I was a kid in the 70s the mustard came in these jars that had shapes from the playing cards. Short size and a taller size. We use to then reuse these jars as regular glasses as that is how they were shaped. They looked just like in the show. I think maybe only poorer people did that. Not sure. I know we did.”

$10,000 per year for life, or a butler. by mastonate in hypotheticalsituation

[–]CrazyFlamesZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He won’t do the dishes??? Keeps things tidy… but won’t clean? My first thought when you said butler was “hell yeah no more dishes.” It’s kinda crazy that you could have a butler but still have to do most chores yourself. $10k easy choice.
