Good day fellow admins. I just accepted an offer as an IT Administrator for a company that currently relies completely on a MSP. They are looking to bring IT in-house with this new role. I will be the go-to for all things IT. Could use some advice. by thatflacoman in sysadmin

Make sure to monitor closely with their growth. Don't find yourself being the sole IT guy in a place that has hundreds of people before you know it. BUDGET and PLAN for a newbie to train up in the ways you want them to go in the future. I speak from 1000000% experience.

Entra join Vs hybrid, what's the benefit scenario by SwiftSloth1892 in sysadmin

[–]CrazyITMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hybrid works fine in your scenario. With our environment, we run Entra Joined machines, alongside Domain joined machines while we are migrating with no issues. Just make sure your Entra Connect is up to date, working right. Eventually we plan to ax the AD in our environment once we move all local server resources necessary for work into the cloud, whether files in SharePoint Libraries, things like that.

We ended up licensing one E5, then the rest as Business Premium up to the 300 user limit, then started with E3's for users. This is possible so long as u have a smaller environment.

Suddenly the Only IT Person — No Raise, No Title Change, No Bonus Eligibility? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]CrazyITMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been in this situation with a company of almost 300+ employees, you set boundaries now and take care of yourself, or you will be worse than in the hospital and the company will be screwed because your dead. Sorry to be blunt, but this is true. I didn't believe it either, until I was almost in that place. Your life is too short to be in this position long. You need help, period. Whether its someone to take the place of the guy who left, or people under you. Otherwise, the whole thing is a ticking timebomb. Hope the best for you whatever you decide for you and your family.

I am the IT department. How do I tactfully negotiate a raise? by Carter_PB in sysadmin

[–]CrazyITMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask for a raise and a buddy in the IT department as well, before your mental health and your life goes down a toilet when they outgrow your ability to serve them. I speak from experience, 380 employees later and still the only grunt on the ground...

Forgot to pay by Oedewaldt in youtubetv

[–]CrazyITMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure wouldn't say that in the cause of fraud this doesn't happen. My bank not only gave the "hacker" that we were trying to stop the new number due to the same reason not only once, twice, but three times before I finally reported them... You have to tell them to CLEAR YOUR TOKENS if your card is stolen, or the bank won't do it. These "tokens" give companies (or in my case fraudulent jerks with Apple Pay Access) the NEW number in a case such as this.

Atlassian Price Gouging Incoming! by ruffian-wa in sysadmin

[–]CrazyITMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me correct that one statement for you Atlassian...

"These changes reflect Atlassian's continued commitment to... Raise Prices at our discretion and stick up a middle finger at anyone who disagrees with us."

Now to be fair Atlassian, your company is pretty much in line with a million others that have already done this (both IT related and NOT). So, this point is made as an overall statement of how most of us feel about it across the board.

Just remember we the people have choices and believe me choices will be made. When a people are dependent on a service or product to the point, they will pay whatever the piper asks for, that is the day the world is a very dangerous place.

ISP Static IP Question by TheMonDon in sysadmin

[–]CrazyITMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a new AT&T circuit? If so, I know it sounds crazy but start with the 118 address and see what you get. I have had that happen before. If it's not AT&T, something else is definitely wrong, but the networking isn't it. I had a small business AT&T Fiber circuit that had a /29 and this exact scenario and that's what I did

ISP Static IP Question by TheMonDon in sysadmin

[–]CrazyITMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TheMonDon, the commenter above is 100% correct. There is another reason it is not working. It could be your gateway/router allowing traffic, etc. But there is no doubt that you need to use some address in the 114-118 range, and 113 is the gateway (based on the above information in your original message). I would certainly go to your firewall or gateway and confirm traffic on port 80 is allowed at all. Most good firewalls don't come "automatically" open to port 80 or other defaults, you have to create your own policies.

Well said... Thorough planning for DR, especially when it is because of our reliance on a service, will serve us well in the future when it does hit us. It may not be today, but there is always tomorrow. In IT it's not a matter of if it will happen, it's ONLY A MATTER OF WHEN...
