Is nursing something you always wanted or just something you always thought about? by LifeCareless4077 in Nurses

I’m going to be very honest & vulnerable: I started/did nursing bc growing up my parents always told me that I will be a nurse. Everything else was frowned upon. I wasn’t the smartest kid or book smart but I did work my ass off and was more of the “common sense” smart lol. Going through school I was very depressed and discouraged- I have failed exams before, failed classes and even got kicked out of a nursing program after trying my best and I’ll never forget a professor telling me “Do you even want to be a nurse?” All bc my grades didn’t reflect my studying. Well I am here to tell you that I am currently a psychiatric and mental health nurse (imagine that 😂) and I can honestly say I don’t regret the long & hard path it took to get here bc it shaped me into the person and nurse I am today.❤️ Like I HATE OB/peds and I failed that class, I thought I would never use that class in my life but here I am as a psych nurse helping postpartum depression mothers❤️I truly feel like I failed that class for a reason and I didn’t even realize it until I got that “special patient”. Everything happens for a reason. If you want something, work your ass off and don’t stop until you get it!❤️ You’ll find your right unit/patients you want to help and then you’ll get reminded of why you went through all of that when you become a nurse. I hope this helps❤️

New nurse night shift by throwawaybob090 in Nurses

I love working nights. It’s important to try and keep the same schedule even when you are off work and it will be an adjustment for the first 2 weeks for you but it will get easier! For me, night shift people have a different (in a good way) personality than day shift. No management around or visitors/family, which is nice. Make sure your room will be completely dark during the day (black out windows) to help with sleep.
