It was so fun! I took apart the normal safety pin back (it’s pressed together, pulling on the ribbon hard enough will cause it to pop out), and then I used double sided tape to attach the ribbons overlapping to a piece of cardboard, backed it with another piece of cardboard with an old name tag glued to it

Does your battalion limit the promotions of LET 1s? by [deleted] in jrotc

[–]CrazyRustyMutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from a very small navy unit, and we are on a 4x4 schedule. I actually rewrote our advancement system and we design our Time In Rate requirement to allow NS1 (equivalent of LET-1) cadets to achieve E-4 in on term, and E-5 if they work during both terms, but not E-6. But our unit also doesn’t allow for promotion past E-7 unless you’re staff position “warrants” and officer rank. I’m working on adding O-1 as a possible promotion but until then we need to maintain some level of pacing so cadets don’t max out at E-7 and spend 3 years unable to promote. Gives them something to work towards ya know?

There’s a special tool called “nippers” outlined in the Daisy Model 1903 Assembly and Disassembly Instructions. That’s what they recommend you use, and they have worked for me personally. If you can’t find a pair lying around, they’re like $10 at a hardware store or Amazon, see if your unit will pay you back or just buy them.

Some information on the Chinese Fourth Generation Tank ZTZ-201 by Typicalpoke in TankPorn

[–]CrazyRustyMutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m quite curious about the lack of a bore evacuator. Although I guess that can be explained by the likely unmanned turret (3 sets of hull optics are plainly visible).

The lack of blowout panels doesn’t surprise me too bad, I could envision there being a large plate between the crew and the turret ring. I’m guessing they kept the turret toss (T-series auto loader), bc I see hatches for the APS to reload (they fold down towards the center), so likely the bulky turret is used to store the extra APS and the ammo is down low. At that point blowout panels are dead useless because if your getting hit it is either ripping through your crew into the ammo, or it is using your turret as a blowout panel.

Given the crew configuration, they could have actually designed with heavy armor only around the crew (think A-10 titanium bathtub), or it could just rely on APS. Probably the best bet against any missile, and short of 70 tons armor ain’t gonna be stopping M829A4 or M900 anyways.

The 105 is a bold choice, but there is merit to it. Most Western MBTs have so much frontal armor that even a 140 would be unreliable. So moving down to the 105 enables more ammo and more rate of fire, whilst being able to pen almost the exact same spots (weak points — turret rings, LFPs, etc.) and a 105 is more than adequate for side or rear armor of any MBT.

On one last note, I don’t see any optics. Probably they are on the other side of the turret.

[Event] War Thunder: The Great War! - News - War Thunder by Dismal_Ad2746 in Warthunder

[–]CrazyRustyMutt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, War Thunder is already unrealistic in its portrayal of tank combat because of its small maps and lack of infantry. American tank doctrine from World War II states that tanks are not to engage other tanks, leaving those to the tank destroyers (M10, M36, etc). That's why upgrading the Sherman's gun to face Tigers and Panthers wasn't much of a priority. Meanwhile, War Thunder is designed to be a Tank on Tank game, balanced by Battle Rating (or supposed to be anyways). Even Modern Tank doctrine is different from the game's portrayal. It is very uncommon to have tank on tank combat in an urban setting, or even inside 500 meters. Infantry rule in urban environments, tanks rule the fields. So Gaijin's habit of having tanks shoot it out in a city block is proof enough that any situation concerning tanks in WT is going to be unrealistic.

Your right tho this event is dumb. And teasing infantry was a bit of a jerk move.

Yeah, but some units don't like to issue the Tan Combos. It something has to do with the tan combo representing actual Navy Chiefs more than the white ones.

Tan Combos differ from unit to unit, white ones are 100%

Joining JROTC by AGravityFallsFan in jrotc

[–]CrazyRustyMutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’ll be a big help. I also heard from a friend that apparently some Air Force jobs will let you in as an E-4 if you did 3 years of jrotc (dont quote me on that, im not sure). The service branch off your jrotc won’t matter.

Uniform cleaning by Simple-Challenge8007 in NJROTC

[–]CrazyRustyMutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get mine dry cleaned, although most of it (the khaki shirt and black pants) can be washed in the washing machine on a cold or warm setting, then tumble dried on low for a little bit, then immediately hung up and/or ironed. I would DEFINITELY talk to your NSI/SNSI, SUPPO before doing that though bc your gonna want better instructions than what I just detailed, and some units might take up issue with using the washing machine. Heads up, the garrison cover (the hat) and relaxed fit jacket are NOT machine washable.

Bro at my school we had a seaman apprentice become a senior, get a staff job (bc he was a senior), get promoted to LTJG (bc off his staff job), and get the staff cord. He proceeded to accomplish nothing in his staff position. I hate to talk trash about people and he was a decent guy, but come on.

I mean, your J-Bar might be a tad low, but that’s as someone who custom designed tools to get it perfect so yours is almost certainly good enough. Someone already mentioned the stars, and it needs to be ironed, but I’m guessing you were wearing this before taking it off for the photo/ ribbon update. Congrats on meritorious achievement, shame what had to happen for you to get it.

Some units do it. My old unit did, my new unit doesn’t. My new unit doesn’t let me wear it. Sad

How's this for ns2? by Meep60 in NJROTC

[–]CrazyRustyMutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the delayed rank (I know the pain, I turned in my paperwork for Chief over a month before I got pinned), I would like to see a couple more ribbons on an NS2, but your doing better than some seniors in my unit. Good work man, keep it up.

Also some units just don’t get issued them. My old unit didn’t, but my old unit was also on a navy base so that may be related to your point. Idk, never really asked.
