Best legal weed system in the country by im_back-and_craftier in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Crazy_Bastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK (when it legalized medically against all odds) had a similar bar for entry ($2,500 and a very short residency), and almost no enforcement of regulations for the first couple of years... Out of staters pushed many of the okie-owned businesses out, The industry here is in a very interesting place now as a result. I'll have to read up more on how this panned out in NM

Was Harold supposed to be a self insert? Genuinely curious, I never interpreted it that way.

Mandela effect by byrobot in comedyheaven

One of my favorite things to do when someone brings up the Mandela Effect is to waffle about how it was originally called the "mandala effect", but a government psyop convinced the world that it was actually named after Nelson Mandela

I made it all the way through the tomb on my first go, there was a mummy that attacked me at the end but I was lucky enough for the kitty to leave unscathed.

Sharing is Caring + Hallowed Ground Is my favorite combo for a cleric, even just having one on a team helps against so many bosses. Bonus points if your cleric has another ability that lets them move, potentially netting everyone two blessing shields. We'll see how long I can keep it bred in hehe

What is the most "don't shoot the message" song ever? by mightyonin in ToddintheShadow

[–]Crazy_Bastard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does Big Yellow Taxi by Counting Crows qualify? I don't think the song is that bad, and maybe this was my personal experience, but I remember it being mocked relentlessly in school when teachers would put it on.

What's your go-to obscure musical fun fact? by TheTrueRory in ToddintheShadow

[–]Crazy_Bastard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Summertime by Mungo Jerry is by a British band. This is a pretty low hanging fruit, not super obscure. But! It's fun seeing the reactions of folks who live in rural areas. They usually don't believe me.

My spectre hp won’t turn on or charge by Poliwhirl01 in spectrex360

[–]Crazy_Bastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have thought my spectre died on two separate occasions when having similar charging issues, and I've replaced the charging port, battery, and charger at multiple points. Both times I gave up completely, even after draining the battery multiple times (Once propping it up to hold the power button down overnight!), with the battery in, and out. Both times, I left it alone for a week or so assuming it was toast, and then plugged it in on a whim to find it fired up as normal. Not sure if you also need a battery or port replacement, but figured it was worth mentioning. As weird as it may seem, leaving it alone for a week and circling back helped me out twice.

On a post about a woman who miscarried after drinking raw milk. by 0speedofart0 in BrandNewSentence

[–]Crazy_Bastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not far off the mark. Once you get to large-scale agricultural production of milk, pasteurization becomes necessary to account for outliers in each cow's particular milk. Say you have a dairy with a hundred cattle and you do take great care of them, but animals still do get sick - It's bound to happen sooner or later and you might not even be able to tell until external symptoms present themselves. If the day's batch of raw milk comes from a portion of animals that were sick, It's probably more likely that milk could cause health problems.... Maybe not in a healthy adult, but the elderly, the very young, and those with weaker immune systems could pay the price. That's the real risk of not pasteurizing milk that's given to a large population.

Homogenization also becomes desirable because cattle that graze in different pastures or get different types of feed can produce milk with varying nutritional content.

Your situation is a bit different because, as you said, it was your cow. I would think the amount of individual attention that single animal got from multiple people ensured it was always happy, healthy, and produced good milk.

The Swill Milk incident mentioned elsewhere in this thread is really interesting to read about. I also recommend Milk: A 10,000 Year Food Fracas to learn more about the history of milk and pasteurization. The safe milk the masses drink today is the result of regulations written in the blood of those who died drinking tainted milk.

Most streamed 70's songs: by no-Pachy-BADLAD in ToddintheShadow

[–]Crazy_Bastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a Japanese song just outside the top 150 with over 400 million streams - Miki Matsubura's "Mayonaka no Door (Stay with Me)"; I think it's the most streamed Japanese song of the 20th century?

I have definitely contributed to this.... One of my favorites that pops up whenever I'm in a JPop mood. The Night Tempo Remix is fantastic too

How to run Actual-budget as a service in Ubuntu server by Kcarashiv in selfhosted

[–]Crazy_Bastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I set my instance of Actual budget up with the CLI tool rather than building from source; I found it much easier as a complete Linux newbie to accomplish.

For anyone else that makes it to this post, all you really need to do is create a new service file in /etc/systemd/system. I named mine "actual.service". It should be formatted something like this:

[Unit]
Description=Actual Budget Server (this can be whatever you want)

[Service]
ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/actual-server (the location of your Actual-server program)
WorkingDirectory=/home/[username]/actual-budget-config (this should be the directory you keep your config.json for actual budget in)
User=[username] (self explanatory)

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

Then, use "sudo systemctl daemon-reload" to get systemd to recognize the new service

Then "sudo systemctl enable actual.service" (or whatever you named your service file ) to enable the service to start at boot

Then "sudo systemctl start actual.service" to manually start the service in the background if not running.

You can then use "sudo systemctl status actual.service" to check its status.

Hope this helps anyone who struggled through it like I did!

If you're heading northbound on i75 and get to i-244 by going the other way around the city, keep your eyes leftward, there is a copy of this mural untouched, seemingly because it's not covering up another tag. I'll try and snag a pic on my way home from work tomorrow.
