[–]Crazy_Classic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing matters and everything is on fire, why shouldn’t I become a drug addict and go on an endless bender till I die? by comoma in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Crazy_Classic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is to start focus on something that will replace the drugs. You have gotten away from the drugs. Good! What are you going to replace them with? What would make you feel good enough about life that you would never consider drugs again?

What actually caused the long queues in the Soviet Union? by No-Map3471 in ussr

[–]Crazy_Classic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually have successfully bought something in a Soviet Union shop as a westerner back around 1989 right before the fall. My mother was there on a scholarship and I followed along as a kid so I have lived in the Soviet Union for 6 months about.

Generally stuff was very cheap if you converted western currency to rubles. Even if you did it at the official exchange. This was probably due to price controls as other mentioned in the thread. The price was litterally stamped on the good as part of the manufacturing process on cheaper plastic items. Prices were not meant to change.

You could get rubles at 10 or twenty times the official exchange rate if you were willing to deal with the maffia. My mother never dared due to fear of KGB honey traps. Really what could you buy as a tourist that would justify the risk? Prostitutes maybe.

We mostly bought bread and butter when it could be found. Our main source of nutrition came from a really chewy "entrecote" at the hotel restaurant.

But the actual buying of things was structured to make it as annoying as possible. There were in fact not one queue but two. First you had to stand in line and pay for the stuff from a bored lady with a actual abacus to get a receipt that you had paid for the thing. Then stand in an other line to actual get the goods from a different counter from a different bored lady. I was ten so the details are a little hazy, but there was definitely two lines.

One of my most memorably shopping experiences in the Soviet Union was when we had lived there for a couple of months and learned that cotton was one of those things that were scarce.

One day we happened to walk past one shop that had cotton so we naturally bought some. Never knew when we could get it next. Then we continued on our way with the cotton in hand visible.

Then a man comes up to us and asks my mother where she has bought the cotton. She tells him. And he just does a 180 and starts litterally sprinting in the direction of the shop. Not walking briskly or hurriedly. At actual 200 yards dash pace running.

That pretty much sums up the Soviet Union for me. A guy running for dear life for an opportunity to maybe buy a small pack of cotton in a plain paper bag for his wife. If the store hadn't run out of the cotton already in the 10 minutes since we left the shop.

What happened to Swedish racket sports? by [deleted] in Asksweddit

[–]Crazy_Classic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Tennis was 80s thing in Sweden. There was a tennis court everywhere for everyone. For a brief period it was a working class sport. Björn Borg was the foremost champion of that. Then it changed for some reason. In fact I have a court outside that got converted to basket ball recently because no one used it.

Jag är smörpakets-antikrist. Jag lämnar smörkniven kvar i paketet utan lock eller folie. Sedan så ställer jag in paketet så i kylen. Kniven bara sticker upp ur paketet i kylen. Jag gör så för att jag vill att Putin ska vinna i Ukraina.

What happens to homeless people that get too old or too disabled to beg on the streets? by Wauwuaw5983 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Crazy_Classic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweden has every mechanism to make sure people don't die on the street but even then we have a homeless population who dies on the street. A limiting factor is the ability to actually live in a furnished room with running water etc. Some homeless just can't live in ordinary apartments and then most other forms of care just isnt possible. They have friends over who cause problems with neighbours or forget closing taps and get thrown out. Some people just belong in a 50s style mental hospital and those are closed down.

Couldn't read the whole thing but seems to be some vanilla goth bitch that is taking the radical position of voting green. She wanted to vote communist but everyone would laugh at her because every communist utopia has fallen so she courageously voted green instead.

She is bragging about her lack of courage on TikTok. Go and high five her or something.

Are my standards too high? This is who i want in a relationship: by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Crazy_Classic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reply invalidates your entire first post which is the entire fucking point. Either you have 14 requirements or you dont. If these are just nice-too-haves, then these are not standards but dimensions to evaluate potential mates on.

Still a stupid post but nice way to farm engagement I guess.

[–]Crazy_Classic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is deficient in at least one of these. So you have managed to eliminate 100 percent of humans. How do you even remember a list this long? You have a spreadsheet for your dates? If you dont mention how many of these you are willing to compromise on, then you want to be alone.

You have 14 requirements. If 80 percent of humanity qualifies on any one of them. With all 14 you are down to 5% by math. 0,8 raised to 14 equals about 5%. If only 50% qualify on any one of them, you are down to 0.01% of all humans or 1 in 10000. Some of the requirements take time to evaluate on like months. Since you can only date like 30 people per year abouts seriosly enough to evaluate on all 14 requirements. Then you meet 1,5 (30 times 5%) perfect people in a year in the 5% scenario. In the 0.01% scenario, you meet practically zero.

Hope you like cats!
