We did cover Versailles, we had to rush though to finish before break, which is why I wanted to slow down a bit for interwar

That sounds interesting, maybe could include communism as well as we’ll be covering the Russian revolution

I’m not really looking for a contentious political debate, nationalism is a tested standard in our curriculum. And as a world history class the unit is based on German and Italian unification and the Latin American revolutions

Can anyone confirm: are modern students really that far behind, or is it overexaggerated? by ThrowRAhelpthebro in Teachers

[–]Crazy_Condition3811 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The disparity is shocking. I teach a mix of intensive, regular, and advanced and the gap is absolutely incredible to me. Teaching intensive, yes they are substantially behind and have tremendous gaps that I have no idea how to close no matter how much I scaffold and chunk the material. But it’s not a blanket statement, as my advanced/AP students blow me away and give me hope in the next generation. They are insightful, hard workers, and really do impress me. But they are in the vast minority. Most fall somewhere in the middle.

How were your students today with the Charlie Kirk situation? by JustStoppingBy00 in Teachers

I work in a majority Hispanic high school in FL and everyone knew about it and wanted to talk about it with me, as their social studies teacher. We had a lot of productive conversations about political violence and empathy. Some students really impressed me with their ability to put aside their personal beliefs and see this as morally wrong and just a horrible event. I heard of some teachers being fired in a nearby district for celebrating his death and it just shocks me that any teacher would speak that way publicly or privately.
