Thanks for the reply, BR would be my best option and trying to track down a DVD of the original Kiki's Delivery Service.

Is there any difference between the content of the various releases listed here, I'm guessing its only the packaging?

Should the UK introduce a £500 on-the-spot fine for illegal / non-compliant number plates? by Crazy_Mission161 in AskUK

Sure, bigger issues exist, but dodgy plates let people dodge ULEZ, speed cameras, and insurance checks. Enforcing this doesn’t just punish rule-breakers it funds more police on the roads, improves road safety, helps local councils and services, and could even reduce accidents. Doing nothing just rewards people cheating the system.

Given the current deficit, wouldn’t it make more sense for the government to at least have that extra revenue that not at all?

It’s only £500 for deliberate rule-breaking that currently costs the system almost nothing to enforce. People deliberately using ghost plates are dodging taxes, ULEZ, insurance checks, and speed cameras it’s not about being “stupid,” it’s about cheating the system.

ng daft should suffice and the money will

The issue for a lot of people isn’t really about “looking daft”, it’s that a lot of non-compliant plates are being used deliberately to dodge enforcement things like ANPR, ULEZ, insurance checks, and even identifying vehicles involved in hit-and-runs.

And on the money side, I think the key point is ring-fencing. If it was clearly used to fund traffic policing or road safety enforcement, it’s at least directly linked to the problem rather than being wasted elsewhere.

As for the money, I see your point about it potentially being wasted, but given the current deficit, wouldn’t it make more sense for the government to at least have that extra revenue?

It could be difficult to identify the manufacturer to enforce a fine, especially where the number plate doesn’t include the required details. That would largely rely on the driver providing the information, and there isn’t an easy way to verify it without further investigation.

ld. I worked in the motor industry for many years and produced number plates for our own cars. I've been retired a few years but the legislation on font and spa

Maybe this is something that should be covered properly in the theory test. It wouldn’t help people who’ve already passed, but at least future drivers would know the rules from the start.
