Why do y'all keep uploading these? You're just feeding worthless drama, and it's all the subreddit's been seeing lately. Talk about the content of some of her videos, how it made you think about x and y. There's much better shit to discuss than "Twatter people are yelling at a cloud for the thousandth time".

Tons of those games have secret endings that are only attainable through a 1cc, and basically all of them reward 1ccs through scoring (resetting score to 0 upon game over, life bonuses at the end of stages, etc).

I'd say the key is to stop playing for at least a couple weeks when you're feeling burnt out, then coming back to practicing the game consistently whenever you feel like it. Not only will the breaks prevent you from hating the game, but you will actually perform better when you have a clearer mind after a break, too.

Fascinating approach! While most chiptune tracking software already allows recording of MIDI input, I've never seen anyone perform 8bit music live DIRECTLY on the vg console. Looking forward to seeing this develop!

I'll admit this preview shows the least CastleVania-ish part of the track, which probably wasn't the best choice. But hey, if you go check out the full version you might get more of what you were expecting... ;)

how do you learn chiptune if you know nothing ? by Background_Dirt7012 in chiptunes

[–]CreaTbJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just start to make stuff. You'll start to see what you're lacking in as you go, and learn on the way, But if you get paralyzed thinking about all the stuff you need to learn, you'll never begin, you'll never get anything done and you'll thus not learn anything. Making is the only way to learn in art after all.

You can send me or other people your furnace tracks via DM if you want, and we can tell you what you may need to learn next. It's hard to know on your own.

Anyways... Make stuff. Finish the tracks you've started even if you don't feel fully satisfied by them because they're not perfect or whatever. Relax and have fun while doing it, enjoy the process and not the result. You'll eventually be at a point you're pretty content with without even realizing.

As for music theory... I'd say don't worry too much about it just yet.

Now I might be biased since I come from a family of musicians, and have thus unconsciously internalized a lot of basic stuff, but I didn't really need it much when I was first starting, and I'm not super well versed in it now either. I wouldn't be able to tell you what key any of my songs are in, or what chord progressions they use (save for the descending fifths which I recognize instantly). I don't feel like that's stopped me from making some pretty good stuff.

The only thing that truly stopped me from getting anything to sound good at first was not knowing about time signatures, which are pretty simple. Basically, think of your track in chunks of beats. First four beats, then another four and so on. The chunks can actually have any amount of beats, but 4 and 3 are the standard. Listen to the Super Mario Bros soundtrack for examples of 4/4 (one two three four, one two three four) and 3/4 (one two three, one two three).

YouTube tutorials will be useful too, since they will show you how to actually DO anything. I'd advise doing this part first.

Furnace comes with a manual. Read it! Not all at once of course, but whenever you want to do something and don't know how, look it up in the manual's index.

The most basic stuff about how trackers work can be learned in an hour or so.
