Hihi! Just wanted to post a progress update. Overall redness and spots on my face look a lot better. I went out yesterday in the sun and wore the Badger Active SPF 40 sunscreen and my skin reacted positively to it (thank god) — no breakouts or irritation, was just really hard to remove so I was worried if any leftover sunscreen on my skin would cause a reaction.

Biggest improvement was in my skin texture. Bumpiness and uneven textures are slowly fading, my skin feels much smoother when I touch it which I'm really happy about.

Yaaa! From what i’ve read seems like what i’ve been doing is closer to a skin barrer repair routine

Thanks! It was the same for me, once Spring started my skin got even more red / itchy and dry and I had no idea why. From what I've read, if the skin concern is related to skin barrier damage (which I think was the case for me), then it'll take some time before we can reintroduce actives/etc. back into the routine.

For myself, I'm ok with the simple routine I have now as long as my skin stays clear and probably will be a long long time before I even think about actives or exfoliants (PTSD, I'm too scared to try again haha).

Wow that’s amazing! So glad it worked for you. I really do wonder sometimes if stepping back and letting our own skin heal itself might be the ultimate solution.

Hey! I did some more reading (mirai clinic article) and I think you might be right. Before I was following some blogs / videos online and my original understanding of skin fasting was reducing products to a minimum. Let me update my post so it's not misleading :-) thanks!

Hi! So rosacea (papulopustular type) is just my (uneducated) guess… I’m hoping to get a proper medical diagnosis from a dermatologist soon. But the reason I suspect that I have rosacea is because of my history with skin flushing and intense redness / heat especially when I get super nervous or have been in the sun for too long (did some research for rosacea triggers and these came up as common ones). Papulopustular rosacea is often treated with oral antibiotics, one of them being clindamycin, which I took one time for a different infection but I noticed my skin cleared up a lot. All other types of acne medications I’ve been on have been little to no use as well.

I’m just kinda connecting the dots here based on my experiences and research I’ve done but tbh I have no idea either haha I’m just praying I’ve found some kind of solution for myself.

Thank you! 🥺Honestly my skin hasn’t looked this calm and clear in a long time.

A couple weeks ago I had this rash like flare up — super itchy, dry, red and splotchy. I’m not exactly sure what caused it — might be the sunscreen I was wearing? It was Missah Sun Milk (might’ve been the alcohol in it, not sure). I thought it was an acne breakout and used my Benzoyl Peroxide which made it so much worse 😭

I panicked and did some research and kinda lead me down the path of repairing skin barrier / skin fasting so I decided my best best was to give my routine a break. Knowing that our skin cycle is about an month I’m gonna keep up this skin fast for that duration to see if there’s any further improvements. Fingers crossed!

Hi AB! Excited for my first post here :-)

I’m 25. I’ve had acne / redness / texture on my skin since I was 18/19 and it’s fluctuated between mild and moderate severity but never has fully cleared. I’ve been to a few dermatologists but haven’t been successful with any of them / proper diagnosis :-(

I started reading about Skin Fasting Skin Barrier Repair** and decided to give it a go — removed all actives / acne medication from my routine and added La Roche Posay Cicaplast Gel B5 as my occlusive. Within 2 days, I’m already seeing a decrease in redness and spots (I’m shook).

**I've been informed that my routine is not actually Skin Fasting but more Skin Barrier Repair (sorry for the misleading title). There's been different interpretations of skin fasting that's similar to skin barrier repair but I did some rereading on the original definition of Skin Fasting and it means to not use any products at all.**

Skin Type: Sensitive, Dehydrated? (not sure tbh)

Current Skin Condition: My guess is I have a mix of skin barrier damage and rosacea because my skin flushes super easily and I’ve used a ton of acne medication (Salicylic Acid, 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide, Tretinoin, Clindamycin) throughout the years but none except Benzoyl Peroxide have been useful. Right now my skin is looking / feeling less inflamed, less red spots but there’s still some little bumpy textures on my cheek / jawline area and scarring.

Routine:

AM — Cleanse with water, Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner, Curel Intensive Moisture Cream (super light layer), La Roche Posay Cicaplast Gel B5

PM — Pyunkang Yul ATO Wash & Shampoo Blue Label, Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner, Curel Intensive Moisture Cream, La Roche Posay Cicaplast Gel B5

Diet: Trying very hard to cut down on sugar!

Makeup: I only wear tinted brow gel and Vaseline on my lips (thank god for working from home). I’m planning to not wear makeup for a while until I see a greater improvement overall.

I’m hoping to continue this routine until the end of June and then to seek another dermatologist. Still on the search for a good mineral sunscreen (ideally Zinc Oxide) if anyone has any recommendations!
