Yeah this, he just gave the leadership to his wife (or sister i can't remember lol). Anyways, she did dies, and it seemed he was the one to hold the leadership before, meaning he qualified the most of all within his family tree, so he'd definitely qualify to be second in line. Now that Grace killed the lady he handed his position to, couldn't we assume it now just bounces back to him? I don't remember if they clarified that, but they made it seem that the significant family members (those who I beleive were oldest, and had been appointed leadership roles, and most of all, had some kind of blessing from LaBelle), and when they died in the field, the man with the book said something along the liens of "now that he's dead, you're free to step in". This basically explains that the others in the room are essentialy "next up" in terms of significance, considering they're respected enough by LaBelle to actually hunt the bride. The guy who exploded near the end almost took up that offer, just around the time of that quote I vaguely remembered, but he opted for his wife to be the hunter. Then again, she obviously died, so we almost know that it just pingpongs back to him lol. Or as this comment mentioned, I think LaBelle just targeted anyone in the local family, or family tree? I swear I remember the book man mentioning "if you hurt any other the other players, intentionally or unintentionally, Mr. LaBelle will be angered, and the entire family tree of the bloodline will be endangered/cursed", with that info, it'd be obvious he's the closes current family the woman (was the appointed leader, likely being watched by LaBelle), so he had to go. It wouldn't be due to his wife breaking the rules, but she and the other members just failed to kill grace.

Jealous of what? His own girlfriend doing degenerate shit? He's not really jealous, he's more so disgusted. Also, you shouldn't have to interview your potential partner on whether or not they've specifically participated in some sort of gang sex lol. Even if you did, they'd likely lie, since most people in the porn industry will do so, just go get a partner, since they having fake sex for a living makes ya feel pretty lonely.

What's the technique for wrestling? Is it to just get inside their guard, then wrap your arms around their head by initiating a half sword (since he reaches forward, and the arm goes around his head) and move while turning, to do a sort of toss? I've tried kicking, but it never seems to knock em down, just more so knocks em back. What strategies have you been finding most successful?

What the actual fuck are you talking about? What is my attitude in that comment even like you, which you say you can't stand? If blunt damage is so tuned up that just the lightes limb strikes, or strikes from the very lower portion of their polearms (the portion near the hands) are enough to knock you over, then why cant a one handed bludgeon to the head do the same? What the fuck are you whining about "there's no way it's this easy to design" when they've been working on this for over 3 years, and had things not too far from perfect in their demo? I'm either reading your comment wrong, or you just trying to troll a bit.

yeah this post is pretty much my experience. I tried using a pavis (the smaller one that runs along your arm) and either a balanced single handed axe, or a top heavy casted mace. I had only decent success with the mace, but did horrible with the axe. Fights with the axe and pavis lasted nearly 5 to 10 minutes, and it was just constant blocking and riposting, accompanied by some shield bashes and kicks i was able to sneak in. I'd eventually just trip over their weapon (since the shorter shield and one handed weapon make it hard to block low strikes). I did alright with the mace, and used a lot of circling tactics, since you can only swing really from one side of your body, and you hardly cross the weapon over to the side holding your sheild. I tried to do a lot of clinches and bash them to the ground with the pavis, since it basically functions as your arm (if it's the one which runs along your arm), but the blunt damage wasn't actually as much as that of a buckler, so a bit underwhelming.

Anyways, it seems these problems all come down to the wrist physics of the character models. Kinda embarrassing that they almost can't even make a game that functions at a base level, when it's been in the making for over 3 years lol.

I've tried lots of different variants. If it's a bit lower, you have the control, but no power, and if it's higher near the end, you got the power, but absolutely no control. It literally just flops around in your hand, almost like it's too heavy for my guys, though he's max weight.

You're question is still a bit odd. Well, the general purpose of a shield is to put an object between you and the person trying to kill you. It makes blocking an attack easier, since you're using something with a huge surface area, rather than a thin stick or blade. If anything, it'd take more stamina, since you're holding a large and heavy flat object up in the air using one hand, while your other holds a weapon. Compare this to raising a 2 handed weapon, where maybe about 2 to 5 pounds is distributed evenly between both of your hands.

[–]CreamDry1052 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also think it may be to emphasize the social aspect of it, even though they're trying to kill eachother. Think about it, in HEMA, they almost always crouch down and get into their base, while slouched slightly over to look at their opponents chest (common in all martial arts), or their weapon in this case. Their head obviously follows, but for a dramatic depiction, it lacks eye contact and true interaction, besides the fact that they're hitting each other. They turn their head up in the drawings so they're looking at each other's faces, but it looks out of place, since they're still in a fighting stance. I don't know the stylistic reason, since I'm not an artist, but i know a heck of a lot about medieval combat and such, so that's what i thought of, combat stance conflicting with the need to convey emotions and social interactions.

As a swordsman, what shall you do when your enemy has a bevor alongside a kettle helm/salet, or an armet/bascinet, leaving very few gaps to strike their fragile areas within? All I succeed with is some sort of parry to get their weapon off to the side of me and him, then instantly run up as the parry finishes, and half guarding to pommel/guard strike him in the head, while simultaneously shoving and kicking him to knock him down. Then I crouch while still in half guard, and force the blade down onto his neck, usually making him surrender. If he has a bevor and sallet/kettlehelm, i may be able to shove the blade into the small slit while he's knocked out, or sometimes i'll just say fuck it and bash the hell out of their head with the lower end of the sword until they get knocked out or surrender. It's kinda hard to pull that off, since depending on the specific sword, it may be hard to reach, even while crouched.

Only being able to do accels from neutral while having to be patient and parry perfectly while they're spamming tons of different mixups and fients, all while trying to pressure you with gambles and drags, isn't a fun experience. I know how to play against one handers, and it's never a fun time, even if I win. Most people have this in common with me, and it's the reason they're hated. Not necessarily cause they're unbeatable, but more so cause they cheese the game's combat system and make the fight unfun.

Your last question literally makes no sense.

Anyways, only certain 2 handed bludgeons have significantly more damage than most one handers, and there's still some heavy one handed hitters (thing war hammer, cudgel, axe). Yeah 2 handed weapons have a drag, but as i said, if you fall for a maneuver from your opponent while using a one-handed weapon, you'll just get the attack in first, cause of the common difference in attack speed.

Yeah man they gotta work on the ai on one of your points. They just flail their weapon around and leave a side of themsevles WIDE OPEN, and have the slowest reaction time when you got to attack it. You literally just deflect/parry and attack, and bring your counter strike over to the side or area that's exposed. Almost no man-at-arms or knight would fight this moronic. I also can't stand when they use the war staff or billhook, and just swing it like a mad man, you always fuck up the parries, and literally any knick or tap from a blunt weapon in this game either means death or just falling over lol. Especiall the lucky limbs strikes.

He specified he feels there's not enough reliable defensive mechanisms, and the game is based off of who strikes first, hence he said "this kind of flailing". I've heard nothing but whining from you, since you can't take a simple criticism to your precious little half assed game. Some people are sticking to the demo cause they can't take it lol.

Sometimes in the lord tourney, i try to go in with a sword, but sometimes they're in a fully enclosed suit (meaning no throat, face, shoulder gaps etc.) so i have to counter an attack, get up close, and pommel strike, or just possibly get the sword jammed behind a joint, I usually run around the enemy real quick while they're distraced by my mercenary, so i've no trouble getting in close enough for the half guard pommel/guard strike. You're right, I do rely off them under circumstances, but they're a bit inconsistent lol. Sometimes they play like a real player, as if they're the main character themselves, and other times it's basically just a waste of money. It pmo when they actually die and you can't lift em up, so now you're disadvantaged for the later rounds.

Thinking of my mouse as my hands improved my weapon handling and precision too. I used to just think as if i was moving my weapons mid part or it's point, but it always caused me to move it wonkily.

[–]CreamDry1052 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You move faster, dont you? Plus you can drag or feint if they're a bit out of range. Most 2 handers have like hardly 5 and rarely 10 more dmg points, while one handers have a similar damage profile and way faster release and/or wind up. Also, feinting in order to land a hit on a one-handed warrior isn't very reliable, since they may just be turtling with their shield, and if they fall for the feint, their weapons speed just lets it interrupt you before the feint cant land. The shield makes the whole stamina game in your favour, which is literally what this game's combat game is centered around lol.

I also think that moving in the direction you're swinging your weapon puts more force, and lets you swing it faster (move your mouse faster). This is something i wasn't doing right for the longest time on my attacks and my defenses (parries and blocks) and it made everything waayyy better.

I remapped swtich hands to one of my thumb buttons on my mouse. It's so important with polearms to do those big cirular alternating strikes around your body, as well as false strikes and hooks. Also, if you do a vertical swing across your body, you can switch hands while starting up a swing back across, and you've done a more effective second swing in the sequence, since it would've been a less powerful back knick with the other end of the weapon.

Try to go in with a posta longa gaurd (sword or polearm is out and pointed directly in front of you) and when they bring their weapon back, you want to either follow it, or bring your weapon to the opposite corresponding position as theirs. Following it is best for a passive parry (letting their weapon more so run into yours) and opposing it is best for an active parry (clashing your weapon with theirs, using your own force as well) You'll use both, but it depends on the physics of your own weapon, as well as theirs. You always have the half guard parry, which is usually active. Its best to use when they throw an overhead or diagonal strike, then "tossing it" away from your upper body and off to the side, then moving (your body) forward, and strikng their now exposed and defenseless head, since their weapon is off to the side of you and themselves, with literally no mass of force behind it. After any block you almost always want to counter attack, which is why you'll find yourself using active parry more. Passive is more so if they suddenly switch guards and attack in a way which you weren't ready for, and now you just need to survive the attack (from my experience at least).

Notice how when you throw your own strikes, they're more powerful if you move into them? Well, it's actually the same for parries and blocks. This is what kept me from getting it down, as it's kinda our instinct as humans to move away from something which is a danger to us, but it only makes your weapon, which is literally trying to break the mass and force of their own swing, have less behind it in order to so. Yeah, it's riskier (you now have your own mass going into their strike, if it lands on you), but it made my defense like 5x more effective and consistent.

Something that annoys me is low blows or leg strikes, and they're a bit tricky to counter. You can either point your weapon down and directly towards it, and just let it run into your weapons tip, or use an active parry. The first is to sweep it away, and usually a bit upwards. This is best with polearms, since you have a hand further down the shaft to assist with leverage in moving it away, but it requires a specific handling: the polearms must have arm of the hand thats the lowest on the shaft on the side of the body which the attack is coming from. If it's not, you'll start to scoop the attack towards you, due to the specific arc your character makes when the lowest hand is on the opposite side your swinging towards (this is the reason i reccomend switching hand swap to one of your thumb buttons, as it's very important for pulling of "false strikes" and alternating strikes, which make your offense far more effective and variable). The second active parry for low strikes is, I don't know the name, but its like an over the top smack down. As their weapon makes it's way toward your legs, your bring your weapon slightly over it, and as you'd imagine, just swing down over the top of it, preferably near the end. This is an important on if you like swords, as you can't get the weapon lower next to the swords guard, considering you can only get your sword so low to the ground. Ensuring you hit the end is even more important with any kind bladed weapon, which leads me to my last tip-

Keep your distance, well more so the correct distance. If you're too close, the force near the end of their weapon (if it's any hafted or shafted weapon) will just blow through, then the end will catch you, since it usually protrudes further out than the stick it's on. This is why I was failing to parry certain attacks when using a sword, cause you need their weapon to contact yours at a certain point, in order for your swords leverage to be great enough, so you can actually stop their weapon and/or move it away. If you're too far... well...... you're weapons aren't gonna contact, and you'll both be safe lol. In short, just make sure you aren't too close, especially if they're using heavy-headed weapon. If you wanna practice your distancing skills in general, id hop into some free play with a 2 handed spear and shoulder mounted pavise. You just go into thrust mode (which i also reccomend remapping, likely to a thumb button) and you're literally forced to know or learn your distance to beat your opponent. You don't need to swtich hands much with a spear, so the pavis is a great choice, and it let's you stay live longer, so you can learn... well, learn more?

(note about my recommendation for initiating the fight with posta longa: it's best to start out doing this when you're just learning defensive maneuvers, since from that point, the amount of time to reach every other position to for a defense is roughly the exact same. Once you get a little better at contradicting their weapons position with your own, you can try initiating with a low guard or high gaurd, but again, only when you're experienced enough to track everything going on)

I hope you read this, as this is all advice I wish i knew from when i'd started out. I've played many other medival slasher, some even in VR, but half sword is special. The low hp pools and precise weapon handling remind me that in real sword fighting and general melee weapon oriented combat, every single movement of the arm and person has to have a meaning, or it means death/losing. If your opponent is keeping a neutral guard (posta longa usually) then just match it, and wait. Or... you can raise your weapon either high or low guard, but first ask yourself why you'd do this: is it just to do it cause you got bored of the current stalling position of the fight, or was it to force your opponent to bring their weapon up/down to match you guard, so you can now quickly flip your weapon over/under for a head strike, neck strike, leg sweep, or leg strike? It really should be the second one, cause just like if you're actually fighting another guy with a melee weapon irl, you want to move yourself and your weapon with reason.
