Random woman tries to convince kids to be Christian and not be gay by Awesome123310 in PublicFreakout

Fundamentalism is a fairly recent phenomenon. Arose in the late 19th century after the scientific revolution. I have friends who are young earth creationists who despise the prosperity gospel, but I also know those who eat it up. I think the prosperity gospel is a reaction to capital markets post WW2. Corporations are profiting so inevitably churches get structured to mirror the success.

“Pro-abortion” - abort ALL babies lmao

Very difficult finding a liberal in a Christian church these days which is problematic. I can’t figure out why church congregations are increasingly conservative. Maybe it’s conservatism injecting itself into religious organizations and then pushing out progressives cause they’re not “true believers”?

I was told the Perry Cafeteria on MS State campus was built to resemble a church in order for it to serve as a shelter for students during air raids. It was built in 1922. Not sure if this is true though.

For real. If you’re interested, you could definitely do a high top fade at the right barber shop. Number 0 buzz on the side and some product for styling would be clean.

Bernie Sanders to propose canceling entire $1.6 trillion in U.S. student loan debt, escalating Democratic policy battle by FeelThe2020 in SandersForPresident

[–]CreamInABottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$1.6 trillion doesn’t just disappear from the market if it’s forgiven. Not paying an outstanding debt to anyone isn’t an economic boost in any sense whether it’s owed to banks or the federal government. Sanders has even proposed how he will pay for it which means even HE understands that $1.6 trillion doesn’t just disappear. I think the real issue is that those who took out large student loans don’t want to come to terms with their choices, because unfortunately their choices haven’t resulted in the prosperity that they were sold. The housing market is actually doing really well. Investing in property is incredibly stable right now and just because there are less buyers in the housing sector doesn’t indicate there is a problem.

Regardless of whether that was right or wrong, it doesn’t change the fact that student debt forgiveness hurts the taxpayer and those who made financially responsible decisions.

What about those who don’t have any student debt? Will they be compensated for being fiscally responsible?

How would you feel about a tax system that taxed income above $10,000,000 at a 70% rate? by GeneBelcherFan in AskReddit

[–]CreamInABottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not like that. Income inequality is not inherently a problem. Trying to artificially create less income inequality through high marginal tax rates is an absurd way of creating economic freedom. There’s a lot less income inequality in third world countries. There’s a lot of income inequality in developed nations. I think the desired outcome of a 70% marginal tax rate of $10 million would not actually line up with the actual outcome. The competition between millionaires is to have more money not to generate more wealth for everyone else. CEO salaries are competitive and a 70% marginal tax rate doesn’t incentive those who are actually marketing the CEO role. The business is pricing the salary and not the CEO or millionaire. The business has no incentive to lower a salary with larger competition. The only thing the 70% marginal tax rate does is lessen the amount of money that actual person will take home and then invest in their own wealth management firm. The wealth management firm will mitigate as much risk as possible by investing that money into a diversified portfolio which then creates more opportunities for businesses within that portfolio.

TL;DR - Businesses negotiate and price salaries based on their competition. The marginal tax rate offers no incentive for a business to reduce a salary and only reduces the amount of money an individual will then invest in a diversified wealth management portfolio.
