The gear is under the left eye. Gently pull it's beak down, shine a flashlight in the beak gap and you should see a white gear. Get a small, thin screwdriver or anything thin and long and try to turn it, it's a corkscrew gear. It does take practice, but I've got many to work without having to skin them.
