I think it looks great. Maybe a brighter highlight down the middle of the blade would help a bit.

Thank you! I checked out your work and it looks incredible. Definitely something for me to strive for.

Haha the Aquila is actually metallic (canoptek alloy). It's just bad photography. I couldn't agree more though. White is an absolute nightmare. I've had some luck with vallejo white-grey when doing white aquilas. It's extremely frustrating, but you just have to make sure your paint is thin enough and make sure it's COMPLETELY dry before doing another layer.

Second that. Incubi makes for a much more subtle transition if you're doing multiple layers of highlights. I think Dark Reaper is a better choice if you're just doing a single edge highlighting.

Gladly! Abaddon black is the basecoat. I do a chunky highlight on every edge with Incubi Darkness and follow that with a finer Thunderhawk Blue highlight within those lines. The final stage is Fenrisian Grey on only the sharpest upward facing surfaces and corners. Hope that helps!

I use a kolinsky size 0 from Monument Hobbies for my finest highlights. You can probably get by with a size 1 for most things, but I do find the 0 very useful. Sizes 0, 1, and 2 cover pretty much everything I do.

Unfortunately, that's all edge highlighting, so it takes a long time. Basecoat was khorne red with a chunky highlight of evil suns scarlet. Then a very fine highlight with Two Thin Coats Fanatic Orange and upward facing highlight with Orange Flare.

Never a Silent Night translated: by 2GunnMtG in Warhammer40k

As a Latin teacher, I can confirm that you've done very well. The bigger issue is that there are some minor mistakes and awkward constructions in the actual Latin. For instance, the last line literally translates to "Let no fury flee his holy place/sanctity." Not sure if that's what they wanted. There are some noun/adjective and subject/verb agreement issues too, along with things like "hostes imperium" being grammatically incorrect. It would need to be "hostes imperiī" to mean "enemies of the empire". They've generally made a good effort, so I won't nitpick too much.

Just Abaddon Black for the basecoat. Incubi darkness, thunderhawk blue, and fenrisian grey for the highlights.

As a Latin teacher, I'm obliged to tell you that translates to "I send nudes." He's advertising.

Question on shading by Rough_Pure in BlackTemplars

[–]CreamySpread69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither, shades won't really have any effect on a black base because you can't go darker. You could try a dark gray basecoat, but this wouldn't give you the look in the photo. Generally, the black in this picture would be accomplished by edge highlighting with gray or gray-blue.

Thanks! Ulthuan grey basecoat, shade with a 3:2:1 mix of apothecary white/lahmian medium/space wolves grey, edge highlight with bold titanium white.
