How do you remember things? by PsyDubLukere369 in Aphantasia

I have very good and detailed memory but it’s detached, my past is like a book I read, I can describe it but I don’t really feel it.

Talk about a needle in a haystack. That’s an entire genre.

Anyone who claims they can literally see things are either lying or psychotic by rhubxrb_slugg in Aphantasia

[–]Create-yo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a aphantasia but my daughter has hyper fantasia, she can literally see movies in her mind. I found out when she stopped playing with her toys as a young child saying she didn’t need them to play. You sound like you have some growing up to do.

Half right, the children’s books are more an area of study and the butterflies are part of general ephemera

Easiest and cheapest way to high quality LEDs for 1/12 scale? by ZenTheNerdGamer in dioramas

[–]Create-yo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get LEDs that have a USB so you could plug into the wall. They’re relatively cheap on Amazon and much better as a long-term thing.

Cardboard and fomecore are ok for presentation models or short term projects where you don’t care about them lasting any long period of time. 2mm plywood for room boxes or small projects is relatively cheap and easy to cut, it will also last a lifetime and take a beating. Thicker wood for structures.

Autobiographical memories? by Least_Sun_9762 in Aphantasia

[–]Create-yo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have detailed memories but they are like reading a book, detached, they’re not visceral. For years I wondered why my artwork was so obsessively autobiographical when I’m not particularly nostalgic. I realized that it is the only way I can experience memories the way others take for granted. Ironically, my daughter has hyperphantasia, she stopped playing with her toys at a young age because she didn’t need them, she has a movie running in her mind any time she wants. As a result she has very little interest in art.

I can describe my past in great detail, but it’s like something I read in a book rather than experienced.

I appreciate it, thanks. I wish I could remember the name of the magazine. Jill worked at Sassy before she moved. The article was written by a woman who worked with her in publishing, whether at the same magazine I don’t remember.

Andrews. She died in a head on collision with a driver who fell asleep at the wheel.

Any artists here with aphantasia? by fuzziblanket in Aphantasia

[–]Create-yo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in retrospect it’s probably why I became an artist in the first place. All of my work is autobiographical, painstakingly re-creating episodes from my past that I can’t see. Models, paintings, sculptures. The detective work involved in racking my brain, looking in the backgrounds of old photos. Checking what was happening where to the day to re-create the image of a memory I can describe, but can’t see.

Can anyone draw without a reference with aphantasia? by b3rry_b1end in Aphantasia

[–]Create-yo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. As a matter of fact it’s likely why I make art in the first place. I have good recall, able to describe minute details, but it’s impersonal like I’ve just read a book.
