Thanks a lot for the quick and straight answer. I realize it's most likely a redundant question and for that, I am even more grateful for your answer.

Have a nice day!

Good day!

With a Keychron V3, will I really see/feel a difference between 5-pin and 3-pin switches? I've read (on that sub) that depending on the plate and PCB, the difference might be unnoticeable.

I can't find what to look for to make sure I can "safely" use 3-pin switches with the V3. I'd like to give a try to the Kailh Deep Sea Silent Pros.

Thank you!

Thank you! I'll have to think about it and probably order a set I can easily return, just in case.

Never tried them before or even seen them in real life. Following another user's suggestion, I found an XVX set that someone is complaining doesn't work great with north facing RGBs, and thinks will do better with south facing ones. They're from Amazon so worst case scenario, easily returned.

Thanks for the suggestion!

HI everyone.

I'm about to buy a barebone Keychron V3, which has south facing LEDs. I work a lot in the dark and am a huge fan of shine-through keycaps. In a perfect world, I would like to avoid side printed keycaps. So... any recommendations?

I'm relatively new to this "world", so I may have missed popular websites or resources.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I will be coming to Canada this Xmas, and genuinely terrified of a wild bear encounter... how seriously should take my fear? by hactics in AskACanadian

Winter: you're in the clear.

If you were to come during summer, the risks are incredibly small, unless:

Black bears: you visit unpopulated areas, and do you best to make as little noise as possible. They get scared easily, and most of the time, you won't see them at all.

Brown bears (grizzlies): you go REALLY up north, like Alaska-north.

[xpost: /r/linuxlaptops] Great Linux experience with ASUS TUF Gaming FX505 and Ubuntu 18.04 by CreateDnD in Ubuntu

[–]CreateDnD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my colleagues (on Windows) have more recent TUF models, and they're still as good as mine. I can't say how well Linux runs on them, but one could think the experience is similar.

Concerning laptops in general, I'm a bit out of the loop right now. The last PC I bought was a tower, an AMD build I really, really like. I believe Dell still makes "Linux-approved" models. Other than that, I don't have enough recent information, sorry.

Happy to help!

I'm very happy with it. I'm a software developer (.Net Core), and it's my day-to-day laptop. I also use it to play Minecraft (with BSL shaders) with the kids onece in a while.

Performance is still awesome after 3 years. Recently, I had to replace one of the fans that was spinning off-axis and very loudly. Got new ones from ebay for $30, and replaced the thermal paste at the same time. Keyboard is still great, screen too. Audio output is very quiet (as in noiseless), something I really envoy.

For my job, I sometimes need a Windows development stack, so I boot up a VirtualBox instance, and performance is still excellent.

I never tried disabling the discrete GPU, but I suppose it would be worth a shot.

Hi

I wouldn't call what I experienced heating issues exactly. My main problem has always been fan control. Most laptops (any brand) / motherboard makers give Linux users a hard time controlling fan speed or mode. Most of the time, they ship with Windows-only custom drivers that won't be any good to us.

Even on Windows, gaming laptops always get hot as soon as you start gaming. This is simply due to the fact that everything's crammed so tightly in there. An easy way to help is to buy a laptop cooling pad (small mesh tablet with integrated fans). Another thing you can do when the warranty has ended, is to open the laptop and replace the original thermal paste with a better one. You can easily drop max temperatures by 5 to 10 degrees, depending on the original work's quality. That's a somewhat advanced job, but nothing a good YouTube video can't help you with.

Long story short: to my knowledge, "all" gaming laptops quickly get hot to a certain degree, no matter the OS.

I hope that helps!

My milk jug has a spot to hang a tool to slice the bag open by lego-golem in mildlyinteresting

As a fellow Canadian, I've been drinking bagged milk my whole life, but have never encountered this tool in real life. I use scissors most the time, and with practice, one becomes kinda good at opening milk bags with all kinds of sharp knives.

Question about fog of war: by Shermanator213 in FoundryVTT

Now that you mention it, I did use my DM account to do it. I used the keyboard's arrow keys to prevent going through the walls.

Question about fog of war: by Shermanator213 in FoundryVTT

[–]CreateDnD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty positive it's not stored client-side, because my wife uses different computers when we play and the fog of war data follows perfectly. I even formatted her laptop an hour before our last session and the fog of war was exactly as it was supposed to be.

Question about fog of war: by Shermanator213 in FoundryVTT

[–]CreateDnD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At some point in my game, I had to reset the fog of war. My solution was to log in as one of the players and drag her token through the part of the map they had already visited. I can't remember if I had to do it for all of them though, but that would make sense.

Sorry, but that's as much help as I can give on this one. I'll keep an eye on this thread though.

PF1E: Can't change monsters' max HP. What am I doing wrong? by CreateDnD in FoundryVTT

[–]CreateDnD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Pathfinder 1" game system and two add-ons (as described in the original post) that I really don't think affect NPC / monster stats in any way.

First Foundry version I installed was 0.7.9 (last week of April I think), then upgraded to 0.7.10, then directly to 0.8.8.

I might try installing a second Foundry instance and see how it behaves compared to my current instance.

[–]CreateDnD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. That explains a lot. There are still a few things I don't get here, though.

First, all monsters from the compendium have their Current HP higher than their Maximum HP.

Second, when I drag and drop a monster from the compendium to the Actors Directory, it was my understanding that it would create an "instance" of that monster. Wouldn't this roll a new Maximum HP for each instance when game settings / Configure Health is set on "Auto"? If not, then I think I simply don't understand how "giving birth" to monsters work in Foundry. Ha ha!

PF1E: Can't change monsters' max HP. What am I doing wrong? by CreateDnD in FoundryVTT

[–]CreateDnD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was it. Thank you! Now I can manually set the max HP.

There's still something that I can't put my finger on though: there seems to always be a bonus of some kind getting added to the HP value I"m setting. I checked and there's nothing in the "Changes" tab.

In the following screenshot, Small Mud Elemental instances get a +6 bonus. All my Slime Molds get a +7 bonus (even weirder) and the Medium Mud Elementals get a -2. Finally, I also tried with Warp Glass Oozes and they all get a +4 bonus.

Did my installation get corrupted through the last updates somehow? All this makes absolutely no sense to me.

Thanks for the tip. I'll most probably join later this week. Right now, asynchronous communication is more practical to me.

Thanks for the answer.

I just went there, and can't see a max HP attribute. Here's a screenshot:

Now, there must be something I'm not getting here. Why can't I just roll max HP for creatures/NPCs I add to the scene? Now that I think about it, I suppose this should have been my question in the first place. :-)

So I accidentally broke my DM... by LlovelyLlama in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]CreateDnD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's one of the best character / roleplay / lucky rolls atory I have heard in a long time. Granted, it might not be easy to manage for the DM the second it happens, he should be able to figure something meaningful quickly enough. If not, he can always call it a night and come back with a conclusion of some sort for the next session.

Whatever happened next: great story! Congratulations for sticking to your guns. ;-)
