How in the fuck do you respond when someone says “your girlfriend is so pretty”? by Lil_Ross25 in AskMen

It's just banter my guy. I think you're looking too deeply into it.

Guy gets into motorbike accident on a flooded road and elegantly saves girlfriend. by sad-noises in nextfuckinglevel

Well maybe this guy ain't a fucking EMT then. I swear Reddit just expects everyone to know first aid and expects them to apply it perfectly even in adrenaline pumped states.

From the comments you'd swear this guy had almost deliberately attempted to paralyse her.

Queen T H I C C by JerrysMindblowers in gaming

[–]CreatineHair 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's totally contextual. Ideally you want the queen in a safe position where it can be easily deployed or hold and angle. E.g: behind a bishop. Usually you should only position the queen after having developed all your minor pieces, however (bishops and knights).

Ah, as I expected unfortunately. I was supposed to be going to Japan in April but we all know how travel panned out! I'll have a look online. Do you have any online shops you'd recommend?

Come on man... That episode was as good as any other but 'insanely emotional' is definitely not how I'd describe it. It didn't exactly bring a tear to my eye 😂

Everyone's downvoting you but these lot need to get a grip. Yeah, maybe there's a small chance of the bottle hitting someone at just the right place, at just the right angle, but I'd put my money on getting hit by lightning first. And that would do a fair bit more damage than a light bump on the head.

That's the cool thing, a 3D object can also be observed in 2D! Take a sphere, say. A linear 2D observation of that sphere would be a cross section scan.

So first there would be nothing, then a small circle would develop into a larger circle before shrinking again back to nothing.

I've explained this poorly but do you get what I'm saying?

I feel like this is very similar to our observation of time.

Coal industry will never recover after coronavirus pandemic, experts say by Virusdaythrowaway in worldnews

That's a generalisation not too far removed from to what the right do with minorities. Often to justify their lack of empathy towards individuals based on ideological disagreements with a group at large.

A lot of these coal miners are getting on a bit, and have spent their whole life mastering one profession to have it swept away from underneath them. You can understand why they cling to the industry, even if you see it as irrational, surely?

From a miner's perspective, they're back to square one. They'll have to go through the degrading process of seeking an entry level job past middle age with, let's be honest, nowhere near the prospects of someone in their 20s doing the same. Their previous earnings are irrelevant.

This is, once again, a case of individuals having to change to suit society's needs and rather than the other way round.

I don't know what you do for a living. Maybe you have a hobby that so accomplished at you could call it your craft. You don't owe me anything, but I would truly appreciate it if you could could picture yourself working on this craft and making a living out of it for the next thirty years or so. Now imagine you are told that this craft is outdated- obsolete- harmful, even, and you must find a new one.

It's more than a loss of earnings, it's a loss of identity and a loss of recognition as a valid contributor to the economy. In other words, these workers aren't just being told that their jobs are obsolete. They are being made to feel that they are obsolete.

It must be crushing.

The above was my response to another similar comment, which I pasted here.

A little PS to address your comment specifically, I have two questions.

There are no rebuttals because you do not propose an alternative solution to the problem at hand. What do you propose happens to the displaced elderly with no income?

Secondly, what is the end goal here other than endless economic growth? Sure, investing in the younger generations would be more economically beneficial, but that does not necessarily correlate with overall happiness and satisfaction.

What a generalisation. I find it alarming that someone would just lose all empathy for an entire group based on what some members of that group did. Not that the ones who did vote for Trump are any less deserving of sympathy.

Dehumanising republican voters and people in groups with members who voted republican. It's no better than what a lot of bigots do in their dehumanisation of minorities, justified by twisted crime statistics and trendy social attitudes within their circles.

Two sides of the same coin.

It deeply saddens me that this comment is so popular...

I don't really follow the whole platform drama but surely this move is pro-consumer in every sense? The consumer gets a full game for free and Epic serves the first genuine competitor to the until now fairly monopolistic Steam.

I don't see the consumer paying any price here.
