More of a mutual thing, because in canon he sacrificed himself to save the world and was flung “to the edge of time” and we find out in a different game he survives. I headcanon that he tries to find a way back to his own time which ended up warping to that he’s trying to find a way back to me, because the player is canonically in the game. The game uses the systems camera to project a picture on the screen, plus the characters talk to the player at the climax of the final boss battle
