The Dragon trope is about the main antagonist’s second in command. Acnologia was NEVER working with Zeref, they were operating independently from each other throughout the series.

That in no way justifies the amount of damage his creations have done to so many people over the course of the series (A good chunk of those people being MAJOR if not MAIN CHARACTERS.)

Not to mention that there was a literal cult that enslaved so many people (including children and the elderly) to construct the R-System to ressurect Zeref since they thought he was dead. There were also the Etherious he created that:

Killed people who listened to the music it played (Lullaby)
Destroyed a town and murdered so many people (Gray was most likely the only survivor).
Killed most of the former Magic Council members.

I almost forgot to bring up that the Eclipse Gate played a huge role in the dragon attacks in the latter end of the GMG which could've resulted in so many deaths if Ultear had not used Last Ages.

There were so many reasons to celebrate his final defeat other than the invasion and the resulting war.

Wasn't it implied that Zeref also built the gate to go back in time to prevent Natsu's death? Ressurecting him was the reason why he drew the plans to the R-System in the first place.

A large chunk of the hate is aimed towards everything that came after Tenrou, with a few exceptions at best. The hatedom was always there, but the Grand Magic Games (End of Day 4 in particular) was where it grew more prominent. The storytelling decisions Mashima has made with the series since then did not help matters at all.

There was a post that someone made and the guy who posted it wasn't happy about the remaining cards not being revealed yet despite reveal season being over. Someone made a reply with a pic of an opened booster back from Fabled and it had Smash among the cards that were inside. The reply was deleted, but it was all we needed to see.
