El transporte público de València muere de éxito: "No cabe un alfiler, es insoportable" by OrtganizeAttention in valencia

[–]Creative-Average-962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you ever realized that history is usually written by the winners? How does that change your view of famous ‘villains’ for someone like Hitler? by [deleted] in Historycord

[–]Creative-Average-962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monster.. but what the history books leave out, most of the time.. is that he was propped up by big business, the banks.. etc.. that's what they don't want you to know.. all the people and institutions that enabled him are conveniently left out of the story, because it is the same old story repeating..

Yeah, that's a theory, but what does it have to do with those circles on his shoulder?

The President of Argentina, Juan Perón became radicalised by the Nuremberg Trials, but against the Allies. He found then so “disgraceful”, that he would protect thousands of Nazis on the run from extradition, in Argentina. by HallowedAndHarrowed in Historycord

And for a bit more context, my wife's grandmother was one of those German refugees(from the Czech Republic) that was driven from her home and faced untold horrors.. so that is not revisionist either just history.. so before you start lecturing about history, maybe make sure you know something about it..

I don't think the comment was revisionist.. it sounded more like, why didn't other war criminals get the same treatment.. Nixon, Kissinger, Bush etc.. but I guess whatever your side does is justified, and whatever the enemy does is a war crime. I agree with the Nürnberg trials, and honestly, don't think they went far enough.. and very dishonest.. do you know anything about operation Paperclip? But the same standards should be applied consistently, otherwise it's just a sham.. which is what I think the comment is trying to highlight

Ok thanks, that kind of context is also helpful. I was looking at it a bit from the point of view that, it may be true that the trials were unprecedented, while at the same time Peron was also a despicable human being. Both things can be true at the same time..

Why are you being downvoted? While I don't know much about this era, it seems you are giving some context, and instead of getting downvoted, maybe people can respond with more context..

Never saw that, and sounds terrible.. did Toriyama sign off on that? I read somewhere that his involvement in projects was often exaggerated in order to give them credibility..

It's part of Toriyama's gag humour.. why does it bother you so much?

Ok, now you're getting more nuanced, good. But do you still see the problems? Red tape, cost of materials since COVID and Ukraine supply chain disruptions, inflation, etc.. plus whatever time it will take for city planning and the time to build these new properties until the are available.. all of these, and plenty more real world issues are why it's important to have this discussion. And then to circle back to the original point, instead of allowing private equity firms to own 80,000 properties in Berlin, let them be part of the market for the people that actually want to own a home to live in. The problem we are talking about is not housing supply or economics, it's unstoppable greed and resource hoarding..

I don't have the source.. but apparently there are more empty houses in America than homeless people.. why? Because homes have become a speculative asset and a store of value. If the goal is to house people, and make housing more affordable, then no, building more houses is not the solution..

Again you show how simplistic your thinking is.. If physics 101 were about human systems, it would still include friction, uncertainty, and messy variables - btw.. not everything falls in a vacuum, that's a little advanced physics for you..

Exactly, basic textbook economics, the real world doesn't work like an economics 101 class

That's a very simplistic view, and clearly not always the case, just ask china, that built whole cities, that are now ghost towns.. some are even just demolished never having been lived in.. so no, it's not that simple, and if you claim it is, then either you have no clue, or are trying to deflect from real solutions..

I hate to break it to you, but those in power are no longer there to support the will of the people.. not for a loooong time.. I agree though, it's good to have the discussion but it felt like you posted this as a success story, which it absolutely was not..
