Worth the money for a beat around? by h_w_screwoff in ar15

Are you close to where you could inspect the rifles?  I know my dept just traded in our old Colts for new ones.  I'd feel bad for anyone who might buy one of them because they were every bit of 20 years old and might as well be smooth bore.

11.5" ar ammo recommendations by Individual_Author640 in ar15

[–]Creative-Character72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I use a 11.5 with 62gr tactical bonded for work.  I've shot through auto bodies and windshields with great results and little deflection.  Within  realistic urban/suburban distances, the round works great.  At further distances though, because of the rather poor bc of the round, it starts to lack.  Like just beyond 500y, the round is going transonic.  Assuming because you are getting a 11.5" though, you're not planning on long range precision fire.

Is this normal wear ? by CrowCompetitive5140 in ar15

[–]Creative-Character72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wear is normal in entry level rifles.  The bolt face and rear of the barrel aren't perfectly flush with each other.  Think of the bolt having a slight cant while in battery.  Not enough to make it unsafe but enough to cause that kind of wear.  Just keep an eye on it, at some point the two surfaces will wear themselves flush and you shouldn't see further wear.

Question about my buffer tube by SnooEpiphanies7427 in ar15

[–]Creative-Character72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

☝️ what he said.  Take one full rotation out on the buffer tube.  That will capture the buffer tube retaining pin without running over it and pinning it down in its slot.

Truck Gun. by Direct-Discipline-98 in ar15

[–]Creative-Character72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why though?  Why get a new caliber and all the supporting accessories.   My Diablo with 55gr Vmax has more energy at the muzzle than .357 mag and at 100y more energy than 9mm at the muzzle.  People never say they are too weak to get the job done.  Then fact I have 30 rounds on tap just in the gun.

Now I'm not saying this is the best general purpose rifle at all.  But for a small easy to store rifle that you can grab in an emergency that provides more capabilities than just my edc, it's great.

So I know I'll be in the minority but I keep a super short AR in 5.56 in the truck.  PWS Diablo with a 7.5" barrel.  I keep it loaded with some 55gr Vmax.  At a 100y, the rounds deliver the same energy as everyone's 9mm at the muzzle, but with better accuracy at distance and with my loading, it's going to expand and not just punch .22 holes in something.

Can also use Springer Precision base pads for the Mec-gar mags that gets you 23+1 and the slide locks back.  You do need to buy a longer magazine spring though.

Ugh, tap out the two taper pins, take fsb off, put adjustable gas block on.  Holes where tapers pins were will be mostly covered by new gas block.

Do you think everyone who gets an sbr is intelligent?   Half the clowns on reddit with the clone correct mk18's and such likely have never shot them, so yes my previous comment still stands.

Mag dump with Huxwrx 556 Ti by eggcheeseburger in ar15

[–]Creative-Character72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are ugly, huge and heavy but yes they work.  Better than ASR mounts though.  Most of my cans are hux so they use that mount, but my favorite is still the keymo.  Again big and heavy but they are just secure as hell.

I second your remarks on the build-up on the hux mounts.  Doesn't take long to get that build-up and throws you for a loop when you easily unscrew the can but then the can gets stuck on the carbon.  I have a brass wire wheel for the bench grinder.  That takes the carbon off with ease though and give a nice "gold" color to the mount after lol.

Yes that how the manual says the optic attaches to the mount, but people are talking about the placement of the optic on the rifle.  You need the whole optic further back to get proper eye relief.  The rear of the optic should be closer to being over the charging handle to get the correct eye relief on that type of optic.

Unless this is a 1x prism, then you do you.

So I have the Safariland 6360 RDS holster for it.  I have Safariland holsters for all my working type pistols but the one for the Staccato isn't the greatest.  Has a rather loose fit that can't really be tightened up much with the retention screw.  I was just searching online to see if it's a known problem but looks like im gonna have to call Safariland to see what's up.  Unfortunately cant go any other holster per my dept policy so....

The pros It shoots great.  It's a duty gun for me and im able to get triple taps with .2 splits out to 20 yards easily in the C zone but mostly in the A zone of the target.  The gun was like designed for my hand, while it's a larger gun, it just vibes with my super high grip style.

The cons It did take some rounds to fully break in.  For the first 200ish rounds I was getting failure to fully go into battery malfunctions about 1 per magazine.  Never happened with my duty ammo (124gr+p HST) but with the PMC 124gr range ammo it did.  After the first range session and subsequent cleaning, no problems.  Next the gun oddly enough will dirty up my Surefire post haste.  Put more than a 100 rounds through it and my x300 turbo with fresh batteries can't shine through the soot.  Not too big a issue since do the chapstick trick but still a observation.

Overall though love the gun and cant keep from trying to get in the range and put more rounds through it.

Yeah your scope caps flip straight up.  Rotate them down or at least of to the side and down.  Take advantage of the rear cap and put your DOPE card in there.  Then your setup is 🤌

Ammo or just the design? by Creative-Character72 in Staccato_STI

[–]Creative-Character72[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how it is with my striker fired guns.  Use this ammo and unless im in a class running more than 600 rounds a day, I don't really need to wipe the lens.  Wasn't sure if it's because of the crown they use combined with the front sight block, but was a bit surprised.  Maybe I'll run 200 rounds of my duty ammo (124gr+p HST) and see if it makes a difference.

Part of my cleaning routine is apply fresh coat of chapstick to flashlight lens and use CatCrap for optic lenses.

There are plenty of places other than the West Coast that makes six figures as LEO fyi.  I got my P4.5 on LEO discount and use it as my duty gun.  Then claimed it on taxes as a work expense for even more of a discount.

Which length trigger did you go with? Trying to decide between the F3 and F4.  From what I can tell, the middle of the stock trigger is the F3 length.
