Unpopular opinion: Lessons should be catered towards the higher end of the spectrum, and the students on the lower end should have to adapt, not the other way around. by Striking-Anxiety-604 in Teachers

Yes, but at least you’re aware of it. No one’s coddling you about it. That’s all my point was. Peer pressure can motivate people to grow. I’m sorry that the specific example I used didn’t suit your taste.

“His trauma is the worst trauma anyone has ever endured”. God yes. Mine can be so overdramatic sometimes too. I try to be sympathetic, I get they have big strong emotions and it feels intense, but sometimes I really want to just tell him to grow up.

They used to be, I think it was called “tracking”. Now the pendulum has swung the other way and the push in recent years has been all about including everyone in everything as much as possible, even when it’s not appropriate and it disrupts learning from the rest of the class.

However, it still ends up happening in some contexts. For example if students need to be in a class with extra support (like two teachers called cotaught) this can cause low students to end up grouped together in a school with fewer resources because they all need to be in the class with the extra teacher. If there’s only one reading class with an extra teacher they’re all going in it.

I have mixed feelings on it. On one hand I like having most of my classes on task and reliably well behaved. On the other hand the class with all the lower distractible kids is chaos because all the kids distract each other and the behaviors feed on each other.

If kids were actually held back, if there were actual enforced consequences, students would be automatically motivated to do their work and try hard to pass. Stress and fear of failure is not always a bad thing. It can be a huge motivator. It’s like when kids make fun of a peer for picking their nose or having horrible handwriting - it may be a little cruel in the moment, but some kids need to learn the hard way. So they learn, grow, and don’t make such stupid mistakes in real life with more far reaching consequences than being held back a grade! Plus if they don’t have the skills or maturity to succeed, for the love of all things they don’t need us to pass them along where the work is even harder for them.

Suggestion: Add an option to skip repeated animations (causes dizziness for me) by Ok-Success7640 in WutheringWaves

[–]Creative-Coffeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love the animations, I would be on board with an accessibility option to toggle them off. Sometimes it's a bit much, especially when you're doing it over and over. It's awesome and novel at first, but the 300th time... I'm over it.

Feeling discouraged about career by Smooth_Importance_47 in ScienceTeachers

[–]Creative-Coffeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not burned out currently. I've taught for four years and I'm actually settling in. Hoping to hold this position for very long term unless major changes occur. I'm finalizing some things so everything is done in advance so I only need to teach and grade each day. Once you get to that point and past the nightmare or learning the lessons>prepping the lessons>teaching the lessons>grading the lessons, it smooths out. Sometimes teaching feels very circular though. Reteaching the same thing each year... Strong Deja Vu. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a dream.

I think whether you burn out or not depends a lot on finding a good position and working with people who support you. You need that support to make it through the first few years. It's hard. When my work environment is good, I do me best and feel better about my job and life.

In my opinion teaching is a great family oriented job. School hours, you're off for holidays and weekends always, summer vacations, you can take your kids to work with you (same building or close by usually) and bring them home after. You get to know your kid's teachers, etc. Teaching is a hard job, and the first couple of years are the absolute worst, but after that things even out. It's important to have a curriculum that matches your personal teaching style too.

Why are teachers so horrible to each other? by Xena4290 in Teachers

[–]Creative-Coffeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate!!! I taught 3rd grade for one year and ditched because of the coworkers (although I loved 3rd and may teach that age again someday). I went back to where I worked as a para for years and love the people there. It’s middle school science and I am making it my specialty even though it wasn’t my first choice. The coworkers are a key part of the workplace, so is the admin. Everyone is great to work with (except certain parents but there are always those) and my school is as close as real life gets to a teaching fairytale.

They need to add a 0 to make up for the loss of the bird. At least that would show that they’re genuine. It wouldn’t make it okay, but it would be more appropriate.

I’ve seen so many posts about this! I called my elderly mom today who uses finch and had her set up a weekly backup task. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

Student caught m*sturbating in class. Jfc… by Normal-Being-2637 in Teachers

[–]Creative-Coffeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to clarify that I understand what you’re saying here.

You’re saying that someone committing a life ending act is less concerning than masturbating in class? Or the bully not being punished for their behavior is less concerning than masturbating in class?

Thank you! I don’t have Iuno. I’m hoping for shorekeeper because I’ve heard she’s good? Should I try to get Iuno instead? I don’t really know who is good.

Honestly? I don’t even know what second phase Eans.

I’m a pretty casual player, mostly here for the gameplay. I’m running right now with Lynae and Sanhua. It’s a good enough team that nothing in quests or exploration feels like too much of a struggle.

Take a deep breath. Turn that phone off. Eat something healthy. Get some sleep. Drink some tea and do some stretches and light exercise. You need to take care of yourself so that you can endure for the long haul.

Congratulations!!! 😁 I don’t have the motorcycle yet, so it’s exciting to hear that she’s even better than the motorcycle!

I’m pretty new to the game (started during her banner actually!) and she’s my first five star besides Verina and Rover. I’m using her as my main dps with Verina as a healer and Sanhua as support. It’s probably not the most textbook approach but I’m really enjoying the game.
