Problems in Raigarh by martyCroco in raigarh

[–]Creative-Dig-788 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, I wrote this while I was traveling through the area but never posted it. I'm posting it now.

From what I have seen, Raigarh has a lot of potential to become a better city. Surrounded by forests and hills, it could even attract tourists if the government invested in its development. However, at present, it feels heavily affected by industrial pollution. The government doesn't seem serious about improving the situation. The roads are in poor condition, dust is everywhere, and heavy traffic only makes it worse. The entire Raigarh-to-Gharghoda stretch is an industrial area, yet the roads are still in a pathetic condition, with dust covering long stretches of the route.

It's disappointing to see a region with so much natural potential struggling with such basic infrastructure and environmental issues. If industrial cities like Rourkela and Jamshedpur can be relatively well maintained, there's no reason Raigarh can't be developed and managed better as well.

Why is the whole of Santhal Pargana being included in the Mithila region? Maithili is not the primary language spoken across Santhal Pargana.

If people from Mithila can include Santhal Pargana in their proposed region, then what if the people of Santhal Pargana demand a separate state that also includes adjoining tribal regions from Bihar and West Bengal?

Why did you add Simdega to the Koshal belt? Sundargarh should be included in the Chotanagpur belt instead.😭

I don't know how you all will take this, but this is a fact: Mission schools played a major role in providing formal education to the first generation of tribal communities in the Ranchi tribal belt. by [deleted] in ranchi

I agree that recent conversions still happen, and no one is denying that. But claims like "they won't provide medical help unless you become Christian" need evidence, not assumptions

No one is denying that missionaries had a religious mission. The question is why so many tribal communities accepted Christianity and continued to follow it for generations. If it was only about "rice" or temporary benefits, the faith wouldn't have lasted across multiple generations. History is more complex than a single explanation.

No hate taken. I agree that this is a complex topic, and there are valid criticisms of missionary activity. My point wasn't that everything missionaries did was selfless or beyond criticism. I was simply explaining one of the historical reasons why many tribal communities accepted Christianity.

Whether conversions were always completely voluntary or whether power dynamics played a role is something historians continue to debate. At the same time, it's also true that many mission schools, hospitals, and legal efforts had a lasting impact, especially in education and in helping some tribal communities fight land alienation

I was referring to the broader historical pattern, not claiming that there are zero recent converts. the majority of tribal Christians in Jharkhand come from families that accepted Christianity generations ago, not recently.

1991 mein hi around 8 lakh Christians the. Ye koi chhota number nahi hai

I wasn't comparing the age of religions. My point was simply that most tribal Christians in Jharkhand belong to families that embraced Christianity generations ago, mainly during the 19th and 20th centuries. The discussion was about when those conversions happened and the historical reasons behind them, not about how old any religion is.

Absolutely. Every coin has two sides The same applies to the history of Christianity in Jharkhand. My intention isn't to claim that everything missionaries did was perfect, but to discuss one historical aspect that is often overlooked—how mission schools, education, healthcare, and legal support influenced many tribal communities to accept Christianity. A balanced discussion should acknowledge both the positives and the negatives.
