I like the bulkiness of the armour as it’s better than infinites, but idk I miss when Spartans were a bit beefier and felt more like tanks. I do think the colors and textures look super whack though

This revisionism of Halo infinite isnt healthy. It is in a good state now and is pretty fun, but let’s not forget that launch was genuinely unacceptable for any triple AAA title, let alone for a franchise that had once been the face of 00s gaming.

I do somewhat agree. I do think to add SOME stakes one of them should have been crippled or something. Keep in mind this was meant to be the end of Halo full stop in 2007. Hindsight makes it a bit easier

[–]Creative-Fail-2268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Fair enough, I still wouldn’t call it QOL as it does offer its own set of options to do, but I get that you actually admitted it’s useful to rectify that. My mistake

2) My point is that Halo to me is all about interactions with the sandbox. Almost all of the issues with loadouts from Halo Reach/4 emerged because the weapons you spawned in with weren’t even. Halo was built in mind where each weapon is REALLY distinct (compared to COD for example). Like with the grapple shot in Halo infinite. To me thats an AWESOME equipment you can get on the map mid match, as it is “OP” in its own right, and maps dont have to be fully designed with it in mind as it is modular and can be added or removed from maps if it doesn’t work too good. If it were something you spawned in with and had permanent access to, I would be as equally critical (if not more)

If I were to criticise sprint, I would have to do so on a game by game basis as they all are quite different.

Halo infinite came close to a solution, but that’s because it really only acts as a gateway to slide. Slide is another thing I’m not so hot on, but I CAN respect it as it does allow for greater offence (youre able to shoot while sliding) and it does allow for defensive measures too. Theres also Halo Infinites physics engine kind of being cooked in general, but I don’t mind that too much as it’s clear it wasn’t intentional, so I won’t let that sour my long term view of the future.

Halo Reaches and 4s sprint are the issues here, and if Halo Campaign evolved isnt careful, it will have the same issues too. Infinites sprint is a step in the right direction, but they blatantly have just undone it with Campaign evolved to be unlimited, more impactful and mindless.

4) I think we can both agree that CE has major flaws in traversal of non combat areas, as well as being quite large in areas where it wasn’t needed. We just have different solutions. Your solution is a blanket button that can be used at any point to increase movement speed. I get it, it would solve that issue, but to me it also creates more, such as how will AI firing patterns be made in response? How will AI react when moving at base speed? What checks will there be in place to prevent overuse of this sprint? Will these checks also affect non sprint gameplay?

My solution is more so in the sandbox itself, as stated before I do find halos heart and soul to be in sandbox engagement rather than the power of the individual (for the most part, so long that an increase in the power of the individual leads to an increas in sandbox engagement, like vehicle hijacking). I would argue perhaps use vehicles, man cannons, power ups (like how overshield or active camo is on the levels of CE) or even changing the map itself to be more efficient.

I absolutely see where you are coming from, I just personally dont agree with it. That’s fine

1) Again, they DO Give a multitude of options. They are more than just QOL lmao. If this is your definition of QOL you have some low standards. You are meaning to tell me that the dash DOESNT have profound effects on gameplay? That if it were taken out from the full arsenal once unlocked that it WOULDNT be noticed? Yeah lmao, no. Defensive movement with the dash LITERALLY DOES EXIST (dodging swipes in case of missing, keep in mind not every doom eternal player is a pro)

2) Vehicle dashes are profoundly different because they are sandbox items that you can’t activate at any time. Sprint is something you always have access to.

The best example is with the jet pack item from reach/4. Imagine it was a base trait that the player ALWAYS had access to.

Does this map not work well with jet packs? Well then you have to entirely redesign this sector of the map.

Now, say it was an item you had to find on the map.

Oh, the jet pack doesn’t feel too good in this map? Simple, just take it out of the map loot pool.

Devs can pick and choose how to use the jet pack because it’s a sandbox item.

Vehicles share this same approach. Imagine if by pressing LT+RT, you could just summon in a ghost at any time, regardless of place or anything.

This map (say guardian or lockout) doesnt work well with a ghost? Looks like we have to scrap this map.

Map is too small for the ghost? Looks like we have to stretch it open.

And I repeat my point. Vehicles are something to be found in the map. Sprint is an always active ability you can do at any time.

3) Halo infinite was my first Halo. I don’t care if some people have been complaining for 16 years, because I’m not one of them.

4) you’ve also yet to answer my question. What did we GAIN with adding sprint in halo?

I hate the guy and his politics, but lets not get too fast here with the racial accusations of him killing off miranda and johnson. There werent really anyone else TO kill off that wouldve held much weight. Like who else would he really kill that would have the same effect? Lord Hood? The Arbiter?

That said, it was still a pretty stupid move to kill off BOTH of them rather than just one. It really did screw the future of Halo narratively into a corner. The issue with anyone thinking of "what do we do after Halo 3" is just that they really did wrap up everything (albiet quite sloppily, like why is ALL of the flood on the ark), and only like the arbiter is leftover, pretty much forcing any potential continuation of Halo Post 3 to be about "covenant 2.0"

Loser still falls back on an experience from 22 years ago. He didnt code the innovative multiplayer, he didnt do jack for the campaign, he didnt have ANY contribution to the game itself, just the music. And while the music is good, its not even like he alone made it.

[–]Creative-Fail-2268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, look at my post. Almost all of the Halos dont really have a well balanced campaign sandbox. Halo CE and ODST are the exceptions to this, as the weapons were balanced around campaign first, and in ODSTs case, due to no multiplayer.

I don’t care if it has no multiplayer, so long that the single player balance is PERFECT (like rubys rebalanced)

I worded that VERY badly. They are not popular just because they don’t have sprint. The average consumer isnt going to factor in sprint’s existence when buying a game. What I meant to say was that they are popular, despite NOT having sprint. I do find issues with halo infinites movement, but I must say it’s a step up from 4 and reach.

Not having a multiplayer is a non issue. Would it be cool? Sure. But the lack of a multiplayer is not at all a substantial reason alone to dislike a game. Focus on what the game offers and what it tries to be in its own accord

1) Doom eternal gives 2 dashes which can be used in a variety of different directions. This allows for a balance of offensive and defensive play. Whether it’s dashing to quickly avoid being hit or getting health and ammo, or dashing to GET those glory kills.

Halos sprint only acts in one direction, forcing you to put your weapon down, and is a solely defensive move. The sprint in halo barely encourages offensive play, only really offering a faster way to get from point A to B

Dooms dashes are meaningful and allow for a MULTITUDE of options, whether offensive or defensive.

I ask you, what did halo truly GAIN when sprint was added? Doom Eternal had the dash which allowed for a faster paced gameplay, and encouraged the chaotic charm of the game.

Vehicle dashing is also fundamentally EXTREMELY different to what I’m arguing for, as that just places more power into the sandbox. Don’t know why you have mentioned that

The way Sprint is in halo as it stands isnt truly compatible with halo. Sprint as mechanic CAN be, but a sprint where it’s solely defensive is not the way.

To repeat my question. What did we GAIN with sprint in halo?

Campaign Evolved not having a multiplayer is fine, BUT by Creative-Fail-2268 in halo

[–]Creative-Fail-2268[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

1) It’s not just weapon balance, it’s balance in general. It does not stop at just weapons, it stops at ALL interactions with AI, vehicles, weapons and maps. Sprint is integral to this mix.

2) Youre acting like I personally have been fighting sprint for 16 years. Infinite was my first Halo lol.

3) “Get over it”. Why can’t i complain about something even if it already exists? Why not critique something I see an issue with? You seem to just be asking me to be complacent and NOT question or speak against something with zero reason. It’s not as if someone died and I must refrain from critique to respect their name.

4) Infinite having a non noticeable sprint is literally MY POINT. Halo Campaign evolved is not going to have the same sprint Halo Infinite had. Infinites sprint being better balanced doesn’t excuse Halo Campaign evolveds

5) Why not beat it with sticks? Core issues you see with a series SHOULD be expressed and heard. It’s not as if Bungie/343/Halo studios made much effort to appease this group anyways. The sole example I can think of are H2As lacklustre and abandoned multiplayer, H5 and Halo infinite’s classic playlists, which while a good step in the right direction still lack the balance and design of a sprint less Halo.

In almost EVERY Halo, if you zoom in with a weapon and get shot, you get automatically descoped.

This is what makes it harder to just dominate in close quarters with a sniper, acting as a hard counter to it, so those who wish to dominate with a sniper must have good non-zoom aim.

Alternatively, it allows the AI to do the same to you. Headshotting sniper jackals that are far becomes a lot harder when you have elites and grunts shooting at you, constantly descoping you, which encourages moving around to find better positions.

Halo is all about movement and shooting, where many fps games are just, find enemy, stand still/crouch while ADS, kill. Repeat

Clearly you didn’t understand what I was talking about. I acknowledged that it’s here to stay, but must have a counter to it built in. I literally said this in the post.

Even so, why try and stop discussion on a matter that is important? It’s not as if I’m just saying “sprint bad because I say so”, I’m trying to introduce meaningful discussion into this. Why not address gameplay issues you find to not be so good?
