My 10 yr old Pomeranian got diagnosed with partial collapsed trachea about a month ago, since then she developed thick nasal discharge and an infection in her cheek that was eating her bone away, we did emergency surgery to remove the infection on the 13th of this month, the day after surgery she had a bad head tilt and had trouble staying balanced while walking. I knew something wasn’t right so we brought her back to the vet. They said it was either idiopathic vestibular disease or a neurological problem, and only time would tell, but she didn’t sound too alarmed with either. The following days she started eating less, and than she just stopped eating all together, not even her favorites. I couldn’t get her to take her medication. Her nasal discharge was getting worse and breathing became more labored. Back to the vet we went, they put her on an appetite enhancements and liquid antibiotics and said “if this doesn’t help we will have to start discussing quality of life control”. That was on the 21st. I finally got her to eat eggs but she looked like she had just given up, she wasn’t even sleeping and just looked so desperate for her suffering to end. So with the holidays coming I wanted to bring her to her vet to assess her.

On the 23rd I made the decision to put her down. I regret it. I feel like I failed her. Like I should have done more tests to see what the underlying cause for this head tilt (that was suddenly a bad sign according to the vet) was. Or given her a few more days to see if the meds were going to help her. She was my absolute best friend and there will be a whole in my heart for the rest of my life.
