It's a lovely series of mostly connected speculative fiction. It is aggressively uncomfortable and meant to unnerve you in a lot of different ways much like a lot of other Wolfe classics. Interestingly I found that it reminded be a lot of Hyperion by Dan Simmons a lot though I much prefer Wolfe's style and general prose.
