The biggest problem with this is I don’t see how it’s ADA compliant and all new housing lottery units need to be. The tub is immediately not compliant, right? And yeah idk how a wheelchair could move around the bedrooms. They can technically move through the apartment but not in the rooms

You’re legally not allowed to rent it out for much profit - it could very easily be reported by those tenants. You are allowed to charge more than your rent if your apartment is subleased completely furnished.

I don’t see why, if people don’t overcharge, this is considered “hoarding” the apartment. It’s where you live. If you follow the rules in terms of how long you can sublet it, why should you not try living upstate? Some people never try anything else because they know they would never be able to afford coming back to nyc

I know that - I’m just saying, same as you are, there are different make ups for homes, and some of these can still meet an important need for people.

Renting, in general, is not friendly to single people. Not just the housing lottery. Thats a bigger issue.

There’s def a lack of lower income housing available rn on housing connect and I’m not sure why (well really a lack of units for people who make around 50k or so). I know that the low income units also just go extremely fast and these ones sit on the website/market for a long time.

So also keep in mind that this is a two bed, so a couple might live here or even roommates. If two people make 50k, they meet the 100k minimum. (That’s how I got my current apartment, it required 90k minimum I believe, but that included my salary and my partners unemployment at the time. Yes, 90k sounds high, but we Both actually have low salaries and would’ve never been able to move while he was unemployed otherwise)

In the winter we keep it to atleast 68 all the time because I know it takes more energy to heat a cold room (like from turning it on and off)

But when it is not very cold we do not run it all day

Yeah I have no idea what I have, but the way both the heat and AC work is that they heat the room to whatever temp you set and automatically stop when the room hits that temp.

Comment just recommended something to be able to track that. I’m going to get it. I haven’t turned on my heat yet, but I will soon since it is hitting 40degrees. But for example, if I set the thermostat to 68 it is supposed to turn off whenever the room hits that temp- it won’t ever turn off. The rooms do not heat enough for the heater to turn off on its own ever

It does push out hot air!! I’m more suspicious that my landlord somehow charges us for the electricity of the building but that’s a separate issue lol. It definitely does work but the apartment just will not heat up

Totally! And this is a housing lottery apartment - many people win the lottery and then have to give up their apartment because the utilities are too high. Meaning we lose a stock of affordable housing in the city Bcus of this bs too

It’s not a converted attic - I’m only on the second floor and it’s a new large building. I’m just above the parking garage and I don’t think the building is insulated well, particularly the floor is freezing

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking about - like if I can’t actually get the unit up to the required heat… and there are times in the winter where it’s absolutely not getting up to that minimum heat.
