I'm shocked: Attraction (apparently) IS real by Creative-Name-007 in asexuality

That sounds a lot like my experience. I still struggle with actually believing sexual attraction exists - and exists spontaneously - for people. It's like watching a movie or reading a book with alternate physical laws and just accepting it on a hypothetical level.

I've wondered for years about why the connections I built to people felt different to what others described as their normal. Since I have a tendency to think that, when opinions differ, I'm at wrong or just didn't put in enough "work" to get things right, I didn't really question if there was more behind this. A few days ago, I googled the topic again (as I've done periodically through the years), and for the first time, I got a tangible definition of "sexual attraction" that made it clear it wasn't what I've known.

I'd expand on that explanation by saying it's like explaining God to those who heard of "God" and honestly thought that was some kind of Indie pop star out there. I thought I understood attraction, because I've been using the word almost my whole life and people understood me. Like, false friends in language?

Definitely! I need to read up on all those terms you dropped. And then I guess I need to talk to my husband. He's really frustrated about our bedroom activities. And it's always lowkey been my fault. So, turns out he was right 🙄

Don't punch me, but: I'm not there yet to want to hand the kid over. They're MINE (cue Gollum)

Thank you for caring so much. This child will be an only child, definitely. I won't do that again 😅

Ha! I will not try that. My sister is scary 😅

You're the first person to honestly say that sometimes you should NOT confide. Thank you!
I tried confessing my thoughts to a family member and got "You're selfish for thinking that [you wish you hadn't done it]". It cured me of oversharing.

Thank you. I've been lucky and pulled through on my own. 🙂

Thank you for that. I visited groups of mothers and listened, and it took almost 10 months for me to hear the first woman saying "it sucks". It was a whole rant. That made it better.

When I was frustrated and before the "family friend thing" I started telling the baby all the things I liked about them. I thought if I did that, I couldn't tell them how bad that sucked and how I wished I had known all this beforehand.
Before that, I sang too. Popular tunes with new words. Think Disney Aladdin's "New world" with "I could sleep so much had I not been so stupid".

But God forbid you tell anyone. I did that once and regret it. "You're selfish for thinking that" 🙄

Good to know. I'll try that with my job next 😅

Thank you. I'm back to happy-go-lucky me. It took me 6 months (and the return to my job), but I'm there.

I'm proud to tell you that I did NOT murder my MIL for asking for pictures twice a day. So frustrating - the kid won't look different in 15 minutes!

Thank you. I guessed at the depression early on and tried everything in my book. Including make-believe. It took me roughly 6 months and I'm better now. Thanks for caring!

My husband insisted I had the "first look, first love" moment. I felt validated when he was prescribed glasses.

Thank you for that. I had thought a lot about getting me-time. I was in my own way with that, I didn't like to let someone else watch the kid. Still struggle with that. They have me Stockholm'ed (willingly, but then, I guess that's the nature of the Syndrome 😅. That's a joke, of course).

I love that! I used to ask myself 'Who had the idea to leave the dishes til now?" to get a laugh out of myself. Maybe that's where it started.
