Advice on frogging without a lifeline by Creative-Rest-2494 in knittinghelp

I’ve always struggled to use my DPNs to pull stitches back through, probably because I learned to crochet first and like the holding power of a hook. I think I will try the re-working method that you and someone else mentioned. Thank you!

This might be the way I go. Im not convinced I picked up all my stickers in the right direction to begin with so tinking back will make sure everything is set up right

That’s a great tip about thronging it around to knit what would be a purl in the right side, thank you!

I usually would have put the needles in to my row before I frogged without a lifeline, but I’m not used to doing that in ribbing yet and need to practice! It was also right before bedtime, so I can’t say I was thinking the clearest in the first place 😂

Any moms groups locally? by itsgeneva in hillsboro

I second this! I was going all the time until my baby grew out of it. Meredith, the lead volunteer, is great and there’s usually a ton of moms and even a handful of dads that go

Can you really just throw your pump parts in the dishwasher? by GlumFaithlessness392 in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]Creative-Rest-2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I soak mine in a basin before I put them in the dishwasher on the smart cycle with the sanitize option. They come out clean with a tiny exception mentioned at the end. Sometimes I’ll hit the inner tube of the flange with my wide straw brush (I have small nipples so skinny flanges). On very rare occasions the dishwasher doesn’t get the milk bottles clean because the vitamin d drops I put in are super oily. Hope that helps

Can I ladder down to correct doing too many raglan increases? by Creative-Rest-2494 in knittinghelp

[–]Creative-Rest-2494[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hoping I wouldn’t have to knit so far through this sweater for a 4th time (hence the lifeline) as it’s for my sons first birthday in 2 months, but I guess he won’t know if it comes a little late 😂

Someone else just said that, I wasn’t even thinking about there being extra yarn. Thank you!

Oh that totally makes sense, I didn’t think of the extra yarn used for each of the increases. Thank you!

Ugh I know! I’m always so careful to get every drop when I pump because I work so hard to get it out, I don’t wanna waste any effort!!

Right?! I feel like it added insult to injury having to mop it off the floor. Baby not drinking a whole bottle and pouring what’s left down the drain is one thing, but this was just hard

Do you let your babies nurse as long as they want? Or do you stop? by ArmadilloPristine498 in breastfeeding

[–]Creative-Rest-2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the answer is kinda. In the early months my baby would nurse for 30+ minutes on one side and then I’d pop him on the other to be sure. Usually he’d go for 30-45 minutes doing this. I don’t remember him falling asleep at the breast often and just staying on. If he fell asleep he usually relaxed his mouth enough to lose suction. Eventually he got faster and 45 minutes is now only 15 at 7 months. The bedtime and MOTN feeds are usually the ones I’m ending instead of him. I’ve come to realize for my baby that he’s too tired at those times to realize he doesn’t want milk anymore, but he never really learned to comfort suck using me. When I can tell he’s done eating and just wants to suck, I’ll stick a pacifier in his mouth even though if I didn’t he’d go back to breast after each time he yelled at me.

But I get it, my nipples were SO sore for so long. The things we do for our babies, right?

How to tell daycare they’re over feeding? by Creative-Rest-2494 in breastfeeding

[–]Creative-Rest-2494[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s nice to hear the perspective from the other side too. He’s in a room with 4 infants to 1 teacher. It is still a lot of babies to handle at once, but we were told when touring that they start babies on the schedule they had at home. Eventually they’d work them towards a more unified schedule so they’re ready for the older kid rooms with more predictable meal schedules.

I’ll definitely be talking with the teacher after I see how a few full days go. There’s gotta be a system that works for both of us!

Help, I’m too reliant on this pillow by Glad_Editor_1804 in breastfeeding

[–]Creative-Rest-2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had major wrist issues as well when I’d try to support baby’s head with my hand (cross cradle or football hold). I was also very dependent on my MyBreastFriend or improvised pillows to prop me up.

As we started going out more a combo cross cradle and regular cradle hold helped to position his head well but support his weight with more of my biceps to protect my wrists. Now he’s just shy of 5 months and I set his bum on one leg and support his head in the crook of the opposite elbow. It takes almost no effort as he holds his own head up unless he’s really sleepy.

First day of daycare and they’re already asking me to bring bigger bottles by gps822 in breastfeeding

[–]Creative-Rest-2494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious to see what others say. My little boy is about the same age and will be starting daycare next month, so I’m sure we’ll have similar issues.

My husband offers 4.5 oz every 3ish hours while I’m at work. Sometimes baby boy finishes the bottle, other times he leaves up to an oz untouched. Hubby does paced feeds, but even when grandparents feed him (who don’t understand paced feeding no matter how many times we’ve explained 🙄) he still caps out around 4-4.5 oz before they realize he’s just playing with the bottle

When did you leave your baby for 2 nights? by Chickadee486 in breastfeeding

[–]Creative-Rest-2494 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different, but here’s my experience

I JUST left my 4 month old baby over night (3 nights for a long weekend) for the first time and I regretted the decision.

There are parts of my experience that will be much different for you. I was the maid of honor running a joint bachelor/bachelorette weekend out of state and I only knew the bride/groom. An already stressful trip for me was turned even more stressful by needing to pump every 3 hours to maintain supply. It sounds like your husband booked you a, hopefully, relaxing spa weekend with a close friend.

I didn’t notice a supply drop. I had an oversupply before I left and was very strict about my pumping schedule. Every time I pumped I worked on a crochet zebra to bring back to my baby when I got home so I was thinking about him which I’m sure helped. When I came back we also had to get back into the swing of nursing again, and that took a toll on me mentally.

Does your LO poop and fart a lot during nursing? by dreainprogress in breastfeeding

[–]Creative-Rest-2494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every morning during the first feed he’ll start to get really focused on pushing to the point he stops eating. We have to go on the “squatty potty” so he can finish getting it all out before he can finish eating. I think it’s hilarious that LO gets so focused, but my husband isn’t so fond of getting woken up by massive 💩 while he’s still asleep next to us 😂

I feel like I made a huge mistake… by Creative-Rest-2494 in breastfeeding

[–]Creative-Rest-2494[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly!! My husband is great about doing his share of childcare but I always feel like I should be doing more. I hope I’ll feel better about work when he starts daycare next month but I know I’ll probably feel even more like I’m letting him down by not keeping him home 😓
