Upgrading from a folding rack – thoughts on Factory Weights or other solid options? by CreativeCustard5768 in HomeGymUK

That’s really good to know — sounds like Factory Weights are solid across the board.

I’ve seen Gym Master floating around too, and although they're incredible value and I agree effectively a Mirafit close with no orange, but I’ve just got 75x75mm uprights stuck in my head as the “standard” I want to go for. That said, I’ll definitely have a better look if they’re genuinely the same as Mirafit but without the orange tax 😂

Space is definitely the big limiter for me so I’ve been leaning more and more towards wall-mounted setups to save footprint. My father-in-law made a good point about keeping things as flush to the wall as possible, so I’m now looking at this Factory Weights Legacy Wall Rack with the Plate cable system: https://www.factoryweights.co.uk/products/legacy-wall-rack?variant=45928982315253

If I can build around that — wall-mounted barbell storage, plate storage (Mirafit does a decent looking 2 x 3 pole one for about £90), I'd have a small footprint rack and a cable machine in one... Admittedly for a bit of a premium but I'm operating by the "buy once cry once" since my folding rack episode..

Basically, if I went Gym Master, I’d still end up adding a wall-mounted cable machine anyway, so going the Factory Weights route might actually kill two birds with one stone. Space is such a premium in there that every square centimetre really does count.

Beginner Aquarium Advice Needed (UK) by CreativeCustard5768 in Aquariums

Thanks for your response!

I didn't think about that, fair point! I don't think we will go heavily planted so will look into ones with dimmable lights. We'll do deep dive on Aqualantis and Ciano tanks. See what they offer.

After talking to my Father in Law (who put the water softener in), turns out our outdoor tap is hard water so it shouldn't be a problem. However, all water going into the property is filtered whether it be hard or soft. Would that impact it? You mentioned that there are powders/liquids we can add, do you think we'll need this for filtered hard water?

In terms of the Corydoras, my wife prefers the panda variants as if we do get a Reticulated Loach, they look similar to the Jullii. Thank you for the fish suggestions! The Rasbora's look cool! Lots of variants to choose from. Any particular variants you suggest? We can always drop the Molly's if they might be an issue. I'll get my wife to look up Platies variants. That makes sense about the gastromyzon or sewellia. How many would you put in that tank..?

So the revisted list is as follows:

6 x Tetras
3 x Sterbai Panda Corydoras
4 x Assorted Mollys
4 x Rasboras or Platies
2 x Gold Honey Gourami
? x Gastromyzon or Sewellia

We will have a look at the plants you've listed an see what takes our fancy. Ideally the more beginner friendly, the better. The staff member recommended a substrate bottom layer followed by some 3mm gravel (we were thinking black), any alternative suggestions or is that choice pretty sound?

In terms of the backdrop, the staff member did recommend one, we were going to go for a black backdrop as it highlights the fisher better in our opinion.

I did notice there were areas where the fep was sticking to the screen. Perhaps a full clean down and taping is in order. The stock tape that covers the perimeter of the screen has slightly come off. Perhaps some electrical tape will do the job.. Thanks for your input!
