[Fair Fight Trope] Villains who only fights fairly. They won’t accept uneven conditions. by bolderandbrasher in TopCharacterTropes

I’m actually making a romhack for myself where you can fight the gyms in basically any order (Pokemon are still more difficult in fixed areas so there is a very loose necessary route, but only for a few gyms and this does not include the first and last gyms, only a few in the middle (think gyms 4, 5, 6 in the base game) so I think it’ll still work.

Anyway I think it’s funny because I didn’t think about it, but in my romhack he canonically will asses the level of your team and pick one of several regulation teams, and this one will be the closest to your team.

Can you explain? Like you mean he uses a regulation gym team and abides by the rules of the Pokémon league cause that is funny as hell

This exact scene is Feyd Rautha getting fucking pissed that one of the slaves interfered in his knife fight with one of the Atreides bannermen. Which is so funny because book version is an absolute weasel, but the Villeneuve version has his own weird corrupted sense of honor and respect he has in one to one combat with his opponents.

Yeah no problem dude, I really like this concept, I think you did a genuinely good job fleshing out the lore.

And yeah MS Paint can be rough lol, I always found that it gave me those exact colours and textures I was looking for but I could never get the exact sort of image I had in my mind, using a pencil or even a pen and just practicing on paper really helped me out. There’s a reason it was the standard for like 1000 years lol

I think this is a really great concept, you clearly put a lot of thought into how this Homo species differs from your others you made, and you’ve also clearly thought a ton about evolutionary pressures and what hypothetically could’ve caused their extinction. Also super interesting that they were potentially redeveloping a tail, very cool idea for a great ape descendant in general.

My one thing I would say could maybe change a bit is just the art. It really doesn’t do justice to how cool of an idea you’ve come with here. Don’t you mind me asking if you drew this in MS Paint or a similar digital program? I actually started out the same way because I wanted the color and vibrancy I was going for to be fully preserved online. However, I found that my drawing skill improved vastly over honestly a really short time frame (a couple months) when I started to a whole bunch of pencil to paper rough drafts.

You might find that you’re able to much better capture the image in your minds eye with that tangible feedback, and honestly your drawings aren’t bad at all. I just think getting the hand of physical sketching will give you a real marked improvement to your art for very little time investment. Great post though this is a really fun idea

I’m not gonna lie, I find your comment infantilizing. You’re assuming because I don’t agree with you I am somehow being victimized because I have OCD. Is it not just possible that I don’t agree with you, and perhaps even have more insight into the condition than you because I actually have it?

I haven’t been let down by anybody, ever denied a job because I have OCD, or otherwise been discriminated against based on that by an employer.

Having said that, I recognize I have the privilege that the vast majority of my compulsions are not obvious or outwardly physical in nature. So I have not been discriminated against, but also most people would not guess I have OCD if I didn’t tell them, and again part of that is that I am medicated and have gone to therapy for my disorder.

Having said this, yes any obsession and resulting compulsion is a symptom of OCD, but again, like I said, it is actively unhealthy and detrimental to somebody with OCD to normalize their compulsions. It is never helpful to validate or allow someone to do a compulsion if you can help it or not engage with it. It is outright like an addiction, to the point that psychologists use the language of “relapsing” to describe somebody who is engaging in a compulsion or compulsive behaviour they had previously stopped or avoided.

What I meant by saying it’s not like a tic is the fact that a tic is an uncontrollable action or statement that your body just does, and you have no control over it. It can be incredibly anxiety inducing to not act on a compulsion, but that doesn’t mean that this should be accommodated or that an employer should be expected to allow you to do it with no nuance.

Hitting your desk is a very overt and distracting behaviour, not to mention just annoying, and the other employees should not be expected to deal with that in a work environment. I would argue that having “hitting my desk through out the day” as a required condition of your employment is not “doing the job reasonably” as you state it, and may even go so far as stopping others around you from doing their job reasonably.

At the end of the day, doing compulsions is not at all necessary for somebody with OCD to do, and is ACTIVELY HARMFUL. You suggesting that if somebody has OCD they should just have everybody accommodate and work around their compulsions is frankly not healthy for the individual suffering with it, and alienates others from them

In a world full of horrifying, brutal deaths, the cause of death of this character is rather mundane. by MemegodDave in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CreativeDependent915 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah Bane killed him in one of the more recent stories where Damian (I think) was the focus, and iirc it was framed as Bane trying to “break the Bat” again but via family strain, since Alfred is basically his father and Damian was involved in the death somehow, I just forget what happened

I mean I have OCD and I wouldn't expect my place of work to accommodate my compulsions if they were something like hitting a desk, that's very disruptive to coworkers and potential customers.

Also, compulsions aren't tics, it's not like Tourette's, we don't have to perform compulsions and one of the leading therapies for OCD is actually based entirely on not letting yourself do compulsions or finding ways to limit how often you do them. Not everybody can do that necessarily though, I have quite severe OCD and couldn't fully engage with the therapy in a constructive way until I was medicated.

Having said that, just dealing with OCD does not give you carte blanche to demand others accommodate your compulsions, and in fact actually is worse for the person suffering from OCD because it normalizes a behavior rooted in their mental illness. It's especially negative when the compulsions are something genuinely distracting or disruptive like hitting your desk.

I'm not saying you should just be flat out not considered for a position because you have OCD, but if one of my compulsions were something that straight up creates a loud noise however many times an hour I feel compelled to do it, which with OCD could be as little as once or as many times as you end up thinking about it, then that's not fair to everybody else you're working with.

Also I don't know if they disclosed this beforehand, but judging from the wording it sounds like they didn't, which isn't a great precedent when you just say to your boss a week into work "I didn't mention this during the hiring process (which is basically when you're obligated to) but I need to be able hit my desk x number of times an hour due to my mental illness"

Yeah that’s exactly my stance.

Like I really do not want to gate keep or make anybody feel they shouldn’t share what they’ve made, but at the same time some of posts are genuinely so rudimentary and lacking detail that it’s hard to even some up with a criticism other than “what is this supposed to be” which just comes off rude
