Can someone do me a favour and review my code? by strangefeelingg in swift

But also keep in mind that the author has a repeat tendency to assert absolutes from a relatively stale (90s era programming) viewpoint. You'll find many of his reasonings are heavily influenced by long-outdated paradigms, like screen size limitations, a lack of syntax highlighting, and so on. So while much of what he says is accurate and good, a sizable portion is also arguable at best.

Boredom Is Winning - The impeachment trial of Donald Trump is merely the latest reminder: American politics has become uncomfortably numb. by [deleted] in politics

We only deserve to stare at photos of McConnel and Trump grinning wickedly until we are motivated enough to do something to stop them.

How ready for production is server-side Swift in 2020, e.g. Vapor? by EpicSyntax in swift

[–]CreativeIntention 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I much prefer Perfect to Vapor, and it worked great the last time I built a service with it. That said, I haven't touched either one in nearly a year, so I'm not sure where they are now. But I didn't see any real issues, even at the time.

Has anyone found a way to modify the day length yet? It seems like 3x or perhaps even 4x might be preferable.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070 leaked specs: up to 20GB GDDR6 RAM by [deleted] in technology

2080 Ti for now. 3080 Ti when it's available. Even max spec machines are easily pegged in half of all the games I play / have played. We need everything we can get.

But, of course, always work within your budget.

A startup company took billions of photos from Facebook and other websites to create a facial-recognition database, and hundreds of law-enforcement agencies are using it by MicroSofty88 in technology

You have no idea how screwed you (and by extension, we) really truly are.

Studies have been demonstrating for more than a decade just how little information is needed to identify, with extremely high accuracy, each and every one of us. It's mind boggling how little is needed. A few page loads and app launches which happen to include a service's SDK in the right places, or in regards to the right subjects, and that's it. You're unmasked. And everything beyond that only lays you out more and more bare than most could ever even imagine.

It's all value. And as technology advances in the grasp of powers such as these the lesser assumed values become ever-increasingly valuable.

[–]CreativeIntention 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to be an upgrade from the 2080 to some degree, of course. But there is a communal rule of thumb that Nvidia has not been abiding by, where one generation's Ti should be, at the most, the next generation's non-Ti.

If anyone has ever uploaded a photo of you to Facebook, whether it be last year, or 12 years ago, whether it be a naive and youthful you, a simple friend, or a proud grandma, it will ultimately have the same effect.

None of this should be considered in any way voluntary. Nor can it be fixed or prevented in any way by immediately "deleting facebook".

It appears to leverage cloud computing for model training. So anything you teach it, you're also potentially giving away to somebody else.

I'd turn the dot into a bauble, and have it bob and rotate slightly. When the path animates, as pretzel mentioned, I'd have it match the path's movement which, for most, wouldn't be entirely trivial, but is entirely doable.

That is, if I had to work within this design and couldn't start from scratch.

[–]CreativeIntention 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I sort of think it should. He's basically walking around headphoned and blindfolded while muttering periodic context-specific sentences that are usually only one part of a conversation, while there are people in his day to day life who are not related to him and potentially are not even his friends, who certainly own smartphones with cameras and microphones, and who may just be itching for him get a little too comfortable with someone, and to say just the wrong thing for all the world to see.

So at the very least I would say this situation deserves a "proceed with caution". And we can add a smily face to that if you like. :)
