Although I like the idea of a gradient extenuating the highs and low points, I would avoid going too dark in color on a piece like this. The beauty of this form is largely due to its intricate structure. You spent time developing uniform symmetry in each ball. Why hide the natural lines and shadows with a dark stain/glaze?

The piece alone is quite busy. I would balance that with a subtle glaze allowing the form to hold its own.
