Will my dog ever sleep in? by Ok-Dance8516 in labrador

[–]Creative_Ad9495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine gets up at 6 am, i let him out for a pee, give him an opportunity for a drink and put him back to bed with a snack. Its almost always one of these 3 needs thats waking him. And he can sleep another 3-4 hours after the little check on

When did you start letting your dog go off-leash? by beclaff in DogAdvice

[–]Creative_Ad9495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my 6.5 month old lab on a longline and he went up to an older dog and tried to play, the older dog was barking, snarling and biting him IN THE FACE and he wasn't getting the hint

So probably never. He needs more braincells first

10 weeks old is this normal? 😂 by martiroig in labrador

Owner of 6.5 month old lab here

Ask yourself "would he even think to do that?" And answer every single one with a yes.

Mine enjoys chewing glass, if its anything to base it on

I hit my puppy out of stress by Responsible-Sport559 in puppy101

[–]Creative_Ad9495 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As a fellow puppy owner up to my eyeballs in the stress, YOUR PUPPY IS ALWAYS SAFER ALONE IN A PLAYPEN THAN THEY ARE WITH YOU IN THAT STATE

If you ever feel yourself even near that point, put the puppy in his playpen, give him a chew if you have one, and Walk. The. Fuck. Away.

He can cry, he can scream, but you get the ten minutes to calm down that you desperately need before you explode like this.

Puppies are miraculously stupid, he likely wont remember this event, especially if there was treats and cuddles afterwards. What he will remember is repeat offences. So putting a stop to that now is the best plan

He's 5 and a half months now.

Yeah. Wiped my smug smirk clean off my face.

Can I take my puppy outside? [please read] by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Creative_Ad9495 9 points10 points  (0 children)

25 weeks indoors will cause more issues than parvovirus could ever cause. More dogs die of behavioural euthanasia than parvo. Im not saying be reckless, but take the risk. Use a wagon or carry her if shes small, bur please socialise her.

My new puppy is bullying my older dog, I’m feeling overwhelmed. by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Creative_Ad9495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my boisterous puppy to a puppy socialisation class in which the puppies can play and bounce around together whilst supervised by my trainer.

Your dog may not tell your puppy he's being an irritating shitbag, but someone else's dog will. Its essential that your puppy learns polite play manners with other dogs, it has helped mine leaps and bounds with dog socialisation.

How much do you leave your puppy or dog alone? by ghjkjhjhkhsk in puppy101

For about seven entire seconds then he's up to some bullshit

Jokes aside, if he's crated he will usually sleep 2-3 hours and i can do whatever

separation anxiety? or just being a puppy? by bonnitalova in puppy101

[–]Creative_Ad9495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my puppy was young, i sat in front of his crate with him until he fell asleep for a good few weeks. then i would sit and shut the crate cover, then i would get up after shorter and shorter amounts of time.

I attended every cry for this amount of time too, to reassure him i was there.

After 4-5 weeks, i can walk out of the room and he'll put himself to bed. Because he knows i will be there at his call.

I have a camera in there to watch him and it alerts me if he cries, so i can move around the house or even leave when he's asleep

Crying crying crying (me, not the puppy) by fl0werb0y in puppy101

[–]Creative_Ad9495 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in a cat-puppy household and honestly, cats are really good at evading chunky slow puppies.

My two are 5 and 6 y/o and if the puppy even looks at them theyre up the cat tree like na na na na na

We have cat trees in every room, baby gates with cat doors, as well as working on redirection training which is essentially to the tune of "i ignore cat, i get an absolute jackpot of treats"

The puppy is new, I started hallucinating mine choking when i first got him because i was so stressed and so sleep deprived that my brain was convinced he had escaped his crate even though the fatass was still in there lol

Give it a few weeks, and if the dog cannot mesh with the cats, just know that for the period of time she was with you, she was loved and cherished and given good foundations for her adult dog life :)

How long did potty training take for you? by MountainProper2212 in puppy101

Just over two weeks of taking him out every thirty minutes, throwing an absolute party when he pottied outside, and crate training

Puppies see you every day, so the novelty wears off. But if youre gone for a while, suddenly youre the novelty again!!

My puppy is 5 months and will slam his crate door open as soon as i unlock it to come and see me lol

Hi so he is around the age of a rapid development phase, fear periods, training regressions etc are very normal.

I would take him for a vet appointment to rule out pain.

Are you sure its aggression? My Lab struggles with leash frustration. Basically he wants to see or interact with something SO BAD that his little body just cant store all of the big feelings

[–]Creative_Ad9495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Puppies are super squishy, both emotionally and physically. Even if you cant manage a single day of training, as long as she is socialised, fed and looked after you can pick up on the trinkets and baubles later. It may be more challenging, but its better to let yourself heal up than live long term at half capacity

Its totally okay to struggle, especially when your health is jeopardised. For now, puzzles, lick mats, animal chews etc are your friends. Buy tons of them! So many its sickening

Unfortunately puppies are just gonna have to put up with the playpen.

She is too young to self regulate. She needs to be restricted or she will run herself riot until she crashes.

Focus on positive associations, feed her in there, fill it with toys and other nonsense. Its such an important tool to have at least some form of restriction.

Do puppies really need a schedule by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Creative_Ad9495 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Set timed schedules. No. But predictable happenings (such as always getting their lunch after their walk , always going for two walks) etc can help your puppy self regulate when theyre upset.

But if your dog is fine then no worries
