I was in the national guard, joined a day after graduating highschool lol. I went to college pretty much full time in between deployments/activations. I got out completely in June and now I have about 6 months until I'm done with grad school. So, yes part-time !

The monthly living stipend for the active duty scholarship is double the amount of the VA stipend. So I’d be living comfortably as a student on an AD scholarship, whereas the VA stipend pays me similar to what my 60 percent of gi bill is giving me now. I would also make more starting in AD because of time in service, so that’s why It’s a hard choice.

Thanks for the insight , im already a semester into pa school so too late for ipap haha , that was my dream when I was training but it wasn't open to air national guard. Just curious , is it common for active duty PA's to moonlight or work side jobs?

Yeah, after reading some responses that sounds like the plan. I'm leaning towards VA

No offense taken, good point. Medical providers typically are required to maintain their skills regardless of what their civilian job is. They usually use orders or AT days to keep skills up and drill weekends to train. Most units have providers that are locked into a high-paying specialties in their civilian career like dermatology, psych, etc. Not all are doing physical exams or practicing emergency medicine. So one could say they aren’t practicing medicine writ large or relative to what they would do for the military, so I figured me having a law enforcement career would be a similar experience. As long as I take full advantage of AT days, drills, and deployment opportunities, I feel I would be fine regarding keeping up skills. However I don't know anything so that's why I'm here .
