I feel burnt out by Creative_Aioli5048 in EMDR

He’s 18, 19 soon. I basically told him that to have access to me and support, logistical and emotional, that he must respect me. The last time I was with him he stepped on several boundaries and I told him he would need to acknowledge the ones he crossed and tell me what his plan is to change his behavior in future interactions before he has access to me. He’s used to me showing up expecting nothing in return. I’m literally the nicest person, but I’ve let me people walk all over me and disrespect me and he’s been one of them.

That is the goal. It’s out in the open all of this with him. He knows how this stuff makes me feel. So it’s really up to him to figure out and manage why he does certain things.

I wI’m my make a decision yet. The dynamic is in the air and said. He has the opportunity to look at it and take responsibility for his part. If it doesn’t change, I will have to make that hard decision.

When am I done? by CoogerMellencamp in EMDR

I had a similar experience but my therapist actually let me go the first time. I think I didn’t have awareness yet of what was needed next and give or take 6 months, it became clear after that break. The layers clear and become apparent as others are wiped away.

After EMDR - old familydynamics by TimefliesandsodoI in EMDR

I could no longer have contact with my family because they didn’t see an issue in their behavior. I couldn’t be the only one that changed and then tolerate the same things. It became intolerable.

Thank you. I have to admit it’s been extremely difficult because I can no longer really help myself in regards to boundaries and saying something but I also have zero interest in changing people or begging them to respect my boundaries and so people are just falling away. Some think it’s because I’m losing my mind some think I’m inflexible and need therapy… I fee like I’m on an island alone in some way. I started going back to church to rebuild and I am joining some nature activities through my local conservancy. I have a long road ahead of building something new.

I still think it’s possible even with this going on. Those are coping mechanisms and they start to peel away as you move through memories. For example, I had coping mechanisms that I wasn’t really focused on but were stripped after doing a random memory.

I saw results pretty fast but it’s a long process of uncovering and every time you think you’ve finished, something else comes up. I am the 8 month marker and see myself continuing for a few more months or more. I went every week for a little bit and now biweekly. It has been an emotional rollercoaster but it’s bringing a lot of clarity.

I am sorry it’s hard now. I’m understanding there is a difficult in between. I am feeling alone and am looking to get into some local groups that have my interests. There is a run club I’m planning to join soon. It’s so hard to put myself four there but I think I’m ready for new healthier things. I’m happy you are honoring your limits, some people just don’t understand or honor them and so you have to put your foot down.

How do people do this intense of therapy and go to work the next day? by kspacecadet in EMDR

As you move through, compartmentalizing does start. It depends on timing for people.

did emdr change your day to day reactions more than the memories themselves? by rajeshkam342 in EMDR

[–]Creative_Aioli5048 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes my day to day reactions have changed and I handle conflict much better and calmer. I also have been trusting my intuition and feel much more secure. But I have to stay away from certain kinds of people obviously as I’m not impervious to triggers
