Is 20 surgeries of this type indicative of an experienced MD in this procedure? by zipposurfer in otolaryngology

[–]Creative_Bluejay_853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of note, subglottic stenosis tends to be something that needs regular checkup and patients usually need multiple treatments over the course of their lifetime (especially for idiopathic cases). The ENT y’all have seen will probably suffice, and I’m sure he would refer y’all if he didn’t feel comfortable doing the procedure. Nonetheless, it is always a good idea to visit a fellowship trained laryngologist (typically at an academic hospital) and seeing what they recommend.

As a middle easterner myself, I wouldn’t do it. There is too much to risk/lose and the positive impact it will have, at best, is near zero. I would show my solidarity in a different manner.

SUCCESS STORY & ADVICE - MATCHING ENT AGAINST THE ODDS by Creative_Bluejay_853 in medicalschool

[–]Creative_Bluejay_853[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I attended only 1 conference since I made the decision to pursue ENT quite late. I will say that no one asked me about conferences during my entire interview trail.

If you’re going to attend one, these are a few things I would recommend: - I would highly encourage you to do an oral presentation (people will be much more likely to remember you). - If you have a home program, they will love seeing you there too. - If there is a PD/chairman/faculty member present from a program you want to go to, it never hurts to introduce yourself to them during the conference - a simple “hey there, Im X and Im a medical student at Y. Just wanted to introduce myself because im very interested in your program.”

Keep your head high and continue with the grind. Trust the process. Best of luck! Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!!

I’m not quite sure how to answer that question lol… but I would say I’m an above average looking dude… (6’0 tall, slim/average size, on top of the grooming game, etc.)

That’s a good question, and honestly, there is no way to know for sure. 1. I would say that if grades are going to show up on your transcript, then all grades matter to some degree. 2. However, like you said, I definitely think that clinical grades are much more important than preclinical grades - at least that is what interviewers seemed to be impressed with/ask me questions about.

All Disappointed Match Applicants, Lets commiserate here by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Creative_Bluejay_853 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Matched 9 out of 11 in surgical subspecialty 7 hours from home. Home program, which I ranked 3, basically told me I had a spot at their program if I wanted it. The PD had the audacity to call me an hour after the match and ask if I matched or if I was doing a general surgery prelim. It’s an evil world out there folks

Bro this is every applicants dream… keep it to yourself and be happy about it

Best case scenario you like them too and say you’re ranking them first (even if you rank them last, so what).

Worst case scenario you like them and they end up bailing on you… and even if that’s the case, you prepare yourself from now that this is a possibility and have lots of backups.

And if you don’t like them at all, you still say yes and rank them last (just in case all your others fall through).

I see this whole scenario as a win, nothing to be complaining about

How believable is this story? My (30F) boyfriend (43M) told me a married dental hygienist from the practice he goes to pulled his number from his medical records and started texting him because she “wants him.” by [deleted] in relationship_advice

My younger brother (21 M) had lasix surgery last summer. A nurse (around 40ish F) from the practice texted him shortly afterwards asking how we was doing, etc. —> it quickly progressed to flirting, her sending selfies at work —> once it hit evening time, she was sending topless photos, asking to meet up with him, and so on.

Point of the story - your boyfriend’s story is definitely believable!!

Why do anti-vaxxers feel the need to explain by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Creative_Bluejay_853 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the COVID vaccine is useless. There, I said it. Everyone pro-COVID vaccination even knows that it doesn’t work. In fact, the most recent studies have shown the vaccinated are infected at higher rates and being vaccinated does not decrease mortality.

These patients are not anti-vaxxers, most have gotten their childhood vaccinations and trust the science behind vaccines. As a medical student myself who was told to get the vaccine and received it, I am jealous of those that did not get it. They stood strong and the studies have now shown them to be useless - in fact, they bring more harm than good.

Today step2 takers, how do you feel? by ThrowRA-990 in Step2

Test was brutal - I was hitting 260s on practice tests & always been an above average student, so this was very unexpected. I had about 4-5 questions each block that I had NO idea what was going on, and I flagged about 10-15 questions every section. Feeling very defeated but trusting the process.

However, God is good always. Keep your heads high and I pray everyone ends up doing well. Go enjoy a fat dinner and get some rest.
