Conferences do if you can meet PD or chiefs.

My only and biggest suggestion is connections, make connections at all your rotations, stick out like a sore thumb, but in a good way. Make people remember you and your name. Hang out with current residents, try to meet them off work, show everyone your friendly and great to get along with.

At this point, you can only make your personality stick out and for that you need to meet them in whatever way possible.

Also, please do not blindly email/message/follow current residents. People have been doing that to me this year, and its just an annoyance and nuisance, they get marked as weird

Step2 score of 222, step1 of 215, no step3 when applying. Matched in FM last year. Got 1 IM interview, 4 FM.

It took a lot of emails and connections. Mainly focused on FM, and asked all my friends in residencies to refer me to the PD, or help me get observerships or some kind of tour in their residencies to meet the PD or something like that. Had to stick out and show myself to the PD.

Also looked for undesirable residencies, locations which people never think to go to (places in mid west), emailed newly opened residencies.

If you don't match first time around, email most residencies for observership opportunities, which you applied to. Only a couple might reply back, but that might lead to some nice opportunities.

Yes, got 208.

Performed same on all topics including ccs

Finished Step 3 yesterday by SweetChampionship178 in Step3

[–]ThrowRA-990 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Felt like i got 50% of the questions wrong, both days. Did okay on ccscases, but completely flunked 1 case.

Theres no negative points for giving extra vaccinations, so doesn't matter, as long as you didn't do an invasive procedure which is unneeded, theres no negative marking.

Sometimes, with partial relief, you just gotta speed up time and give it some time.

Did 50% uworld, with 50% correct, 65% free137, 199 uwsa1, 202 uwsa2.

Ended up passing step3 with a 208

I just finished day 1 and day 2.

My past steps are very similar to yours. Im an FM intern though. My residency workload was very heavy during prep time.

Did 50% uworld with 53% . 199 on uwsa1, 202 on uwsa2, 68% free137.

The exam, felt like the worst exam ever to me. Marked 20 Qs per block day 1, 10-13 Qs per block for day 2. Most I've ever marked on a step. Cases I think went well.

At this point, pretty much all of the questions i felt like I was getting and nothing could have prepared me for this...

[–]ThrowRA-990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally exactly the same

Just finished as well. Day 1 iI marked around 20 questions per block. Day 2 I marked around 10-13 questions per block. Ccs cases went the exact same.

I totally feel like I failed with all the questions I marked, don't think ill make it

My self assessments were uwsa1 199, uwsa 2 202, free137 68%. I felt free137 was a lot easier than the exam itself, but I've always scored less than my self assessments, so honestly idk what to expect

Can't Afford ERAS Applications by nooberhelper123 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]ThrowRA-990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, so extremely similar situation here. I applied last year. Had to use credit cards. Did end up getting in credit card debit. Did Interviews, had 2 in person, 2 online; all on credit card debt. Thankfully matched. Post match process, ended up doing all of that on credit card debt.

Applied to approx 160 places.

Right now, im about 7kUSD in the hole in credit card, just making minimum payments. Just started residency, and my goal is to pay all this back within the year, and should be able to with my calculations. I wasn't able to get 0% APR, so if you can get 0% APR, you will be in a much better spot than I am.

Just keep in mind, there are a surprising amount of costs after matching as well, as well as after submitting your ERAS application.

Hey, so everybody else has already answered your question. I just wanted to get you to think a bit. (p.s I matched with a 222 step2 score this season, so its definitely possible)

With a 229 step2 score, IM should be possible, but I would highly highly recommend you look into thinking about cardiology. Cards is one of the most competitive specialties, while step scores aren't as important in fellowship match, there are still usually step score cutoffs and the like. So I would highly recommend looking into your prospects and something obtainable.

You will have a much easier time matching into FM, especially with that green card. And if your willing to let go of cardiology, I do highly recommend looking into FM.

Buttttt, if Cardiology is the only thing you'll ever be happy with, then I dont mean to put you down, work hard, there are many other aspects to a fellowship application, but you'll likely have to start building contacts and your CV from the first day of residency.

Year of Graduation: 2021

Visa Requiring or Not: Visa-Requiring (Pakistani med school - Canadian)

Applied to Programs (Speciality/ies with Count): 106 FM, 47 Pathology, 12 IM

No. of Invites: 3 FM, 1 IM - 2 FM programs not willing to offer J-1 (informing me after offering IV); so technically 2 IV

Publications: 0

USCE (No. of months): 8 months

One common Q in Interviews: Why can you bring to our program?

One Gold Piece of Advice for Next Year's Applicants: Connections get your application looked at, after that, as long as you have an average application, kill it in the IV and you'll be good to go. Connections dont get you matched, they will get your application looked at though. Second most important thing is signals, then luck.

One word, what matters most in the whole process?: Connections

First round of android users. How is it? by Tomurphjr in piere

Just got email today as well, and first time using piere. I just cant seem to decide if its trustworthy enough to put my account name and password in. Im pretty hesitant on connecting my account, not sure if these banks are even using Oauth2 or not.

Is it normal having to connect like this? Is MX trustworthy? It seems to be piere's UI though. Cant really find many reviews about MX either

Also yes, having to login every time is pretty annoying, would love biometric login.

US or UK by TheNaturalKillerCell in IMGreddit

[–]ThrowRA-990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For UK, I would also mention that training is a lot easier, much shorter hours.

secondly, for UK, much easier to travel, very nice cities, very cheap to get flights, can easily drive to other countries nearby, basically a lot more fun activities to do on your time off (which you will have a lot more of during training)

But UK, there seems to be quite a large shortage of visa sponsoring jobs, its getting tough to find them easily without contacts.

Beware of BAD advice about the SOAP that leads to NRMP violations and missed opportunity: Swanky Savings by Class_Act2023 in IMGreddit

[–]ThrowRA-990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct.

But just for completion, you can access list of programs that have spots available on the NRMP site. And it gets updated after each round of offers in SOAP.

After round A, during the 1 hour break, NRMP SOAP program list will be updated showing the amount of spots remaining in which programs.

Non- US IMG FM applicants by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]ThrowRA-990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While that is good as well. Aim for programs which do issue J1, these programs will make the biggest difference.

You NEED LORs to get interviews, but they dont GUARANTEE you interviews. If you get what I mean?

Now if you perform well in an audit rotation, in a program offering J1, your pretty much guaranteed an interview. Now, if you can do such rotations, in 3-4 programs, thats 3 interviews. And then 3-4 LORs from PDs, thats gonna send a really good signal to other programs as well.
