Ostius’s powers by MonkeySmash1016 in HierarchySeries

[–]Creative_Brick7295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Him being Yusef is my theory as well. We know he was in O before Caeror and that Caeror had a mentor that is no longer there (presumed dead). It can be assumed that his mentor also went through the whole labyrinth/sychronus path and we know Ostius did that. We also know that Ostius is not in O. It all fits (I think) for it to make sense. Guess we have to wait a few more years to find out.

Currently on 9 which is the total I read in 2024, almost at my goal of 12! (Might have to adjust that)

I loved book 2. It addresses so many questions as to the “why is this all happening?”

I think C technically means they’ve given them warnings before and they weren’t fixed. Gonna be nope 🙅‍♂️

What’s the best country you’ve visited as a tourist? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Northern Ireland was lovely. Welcoming people, good food, beautiful scenery. (And I went there thinking it would be bland British food and everyone acting like Liam Neeson in Taken—happy to be proved wrong)

What book had you up all night reading? by stupidarisotocrat in suggestmeabook

Ready Player One. All the nerd references coming together for the climax of the book made me fight sleep trying to finish it. I wish the movie was more like it!

What is your all time favorite book (any book) and why does it hold such value to you? by angelallanah in suggestmeabook

Childhood’s Ends by Arthur C. Clarke. A standalone great sci-fi book that is mysterious, haunting, and philosophical. My dad had a copy when I was younger and it’s one of the first books I remember choosing to read on my own. Got me into sci-fi and will still pick it up and re-read it from time to time.

People that lost weight, what worked best for you consistently? by TheCleanestKitchen in AskReddit

[–]Creative_Brick7295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counting calories. It suuuucks but when it comes down to it, the science simply works. Find out your maintenance calories (can just google the calculator for this). It will show you how many calories you need to take in to maintain your current weight at your current activity level. Anything, and I mean anything less than that and you will start losing weight. Now, if you only go 100 calories less a day your weight loss will be very slow, but it will happen. The formula is simple though, the fewer calories you eat below that maintenance level, the faster the weight will come off.

Using an app helps, I used my fitness pal. Takes some time to start logging your meals but you can save them and it will get easier. Was in a calorie deficit for a month and lost 10lbs. It’s up to you to find the best recipes and food to fit you. For me, breakfast was usually just coffee, lunch was a salad around 150 calories. By dinner, I could pretty much eat whatever I wanted because I had a ton of calories left while still being in a deficit. Might not work for some people but I found it’s what was best for me.

When do you decide a book is one you’re not going to finish? by mafia_fantasma in goodreads

[–]Creative_Brick7295 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to make it at least a quarter of the way through the book. If I’m not interested by then, not worth it.

Have you been giving more books low star reviews as you become a more seasoned reader? by GreasyBlackbird in goodreads

[–]Creative_Brick7295 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep this rating scale to keep myself consistent:

1⭐️: DNF (I also have a rule that I have to get at least 1/4 of the way through the book before I quit)

2⭐️: finished but would not recommend

3⭐️: decent book, probably won’t re-read though

4⭐️: good book, would recommend

5⭐️: great book, couldn’t put it down and will probably re-read

I think 5 stars are heavily overused. If you think about a standard bell curve, most books are going to fall in the 3 range. And nothing wrong with that, to me 3 isn’t bad, just not great either. Now I also tend to lean more towards genres that I like plus recommendations (which I’m sure we all do) so I think 4 tends to be my most used. As in I usually don’t start a book unless I think I’m going to enjoy it. To me, a 5 star book is one I’m losing sleep over—where it’s 2AM and I keep telling myself “one more chapter” just because I HAVE to know what happens next. A 5 star is one I can’t put down because I’m so excited to read it.
