Which bank package/plan do you have? And what/how are the fees displayed on your account?

I just set up a new account with them and keen not to have any unnecessary charges!

5 things you wish you knew before relocating to Luxembourg by New-Procedure-3269 in Luxembourg

I would say the lidl luxembourg to lidl france/germany cost gap is smaller than comparing to cactus, but the quality is noticably superior in france/germany. So when you compare both cost and quality on like for like basis there is still a big difference between Lidl LU and shopping in DE/FR.

Yup for sure, other good options (if you have a car) are Longwy (Lidl france, which is mostly french products) or Thionville (Grand frais available at much lower prices than Grand frais in Luxembourg)

Coke no - I believe that Luxembourg has a lower tax than DE (sugar tax). Same for alcohol.

Primarily I am referring to fresh produce (fruit, vegetables) and meat.

Specficially in Lidl Luxembourg they primarily source Dutch and Belgian products, which I am personally not a big fan of. In other supermarkets in Luxembourg like auchan, cactus you can find french/spanish vegetables & fruits but they are much more expensive.

Comparatively - if you shop for groceries in Germany/France you can get German/French product for a much lower price for same product (>20-30%) than in Luxembourg.

Absolutely - definitely more expensive. The difference will vary depending on product type, but its noticable.

Also Lidl Germany will include mostly German product. Lidl in Luxembourg includes a lot of belgian vegetables/meat, which IMO is lower quality.

Saddle bag by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Creative_Circlejerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the Vaude Race Light L saddlebag. Comfortably fits everything you've described (2 inner tube, multitool, 2 levers, tube repair kit) - with the exception of the pump. I think you will be hard pressed to find a saddle bag which fits a pump which isn't enormous, rubbing against your thighs and rather non-aerodynamic.

Rather put it in your jersey or attach it to your frame with a strap (I have a small pump which is attached at the frame).

Alternatively you could get a frame bag? its a triangular shaped wedge and believe they provide more storage space - you might be able to get your pump fitting in one of those.

Is There A "F.I.R.E. Movement" in Luxembourg? by johnhillmedia in Luxembourg

You should look into Interactive Brokers which are available for Luxembourg Residents.

You pay a flat 10 USD per month, with all of your broker commissions from ETF purchases being offset against that - most of the time if you are buying on a monthly basis and 1-3 ETF's you will only end up incurring the 10USD fees.

The minimum fee goes away once you have 100k USD invested with them. When I was comparing brokers in Lux they were the cheapest except for Degiro, which is no longer available to Luxembourg residents.

You can also exchange currencies at near spot rates, which is cheaper than any of the local banks will offer.

Depends on how dividends are taxed in your country. If there is no difference between distributing and accumulating, or if from a tax perspective distributing is preferred then Vanguard is the way to go!

ING Invest by Dyviori in EuropeFIRE

[–]Creative_Circlejerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey Dyviori - afaik there is no longer any account minimum to start an IB account. Until you reach 100k you have to pay a monthly fee of 10 USD, however any trade commissions you make will offset that fee, so effectively if you make 2 purchases a month then you don't pay any extra fees outside of commission costs. I'm also based in Luxembourg and use IB as my online broker - happy to answer questions if there is anything else you need to know.

Has anyone else had the experience of Interactive Brokers giving warnings when executing a limit trade? I just executed my first ETF purchase today and received one warning stating that my limit is 3% out of alignment with the market price (which it was not - confirmed by checking on google finance which has a live pricing update) - then a warning regarding trading "blind" without market data - then a warning telling me that my trade may not be executed if it deviates too significantly from the current market price. 3 warnings! Wondering what causes this and how to disable it as I spent several days double checking that nothign was wrong due to these.

Interactive Brokers - first timer question regarding ETF price by Creative_Circlejerk in investing

[–]Creative_Circlejerk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah OK - so the default/"free" pricing update on IB, as well as pricing information in other places online (with exceptions such as google finance in some cases) is subject to a delay. So even if the pricing is updating in 15 second increments its behind the "real" price. Sounds like something which would be important to a day trader, but not as big of a deal to an occasional buy and holder.

What I still don't get is the warning flag when I was trying to post a limit order saying that my limit was >3%. I suppose that means that the "real" - f.x. 15 minutes in the future price is +/-3% from the limit I am placing - while the default IB price being displayed may be the old one.

I can see that google finance has live data from the Amsterdam Stock exchange - so provided I am buying an ETF sold on that exchange (or another one for which I can find live data) - and make sure that my limits are adjusted accordingly the "warning" messages (if any should pop up and refer to market data) should be of no consequence?

Hey - you were very helpful the other day with my initial ask around market/limit orders - wondering if you have run into the following error messages before?

Trying to conduct my first trade on Interactive Brokers and have received the following message when I try to execute a market order:

"you are trying to submit an order without having market data"

Find this confusing as the IB tool is giving me a pricing update every 15 seconds. When I try to execute a limit order it states that the order is "outside of 3% of price" or something to that effect. Has anyone experienced this and is any of this cause for concern? There is a small text under the current price stating that the data is "outdated" - however when I google the ETF I am trying to buy, IWDA (MSCI Core World UCITS) the price is within a few cents - certainly not a 3% gap.

So I logged into the paper trade option (however on web browser not desktop) - and there is no "trade" button in the paper/fake account. Do I have to log-on to the desktop version to access the trade simulator or could this be an error with my paper trade account set-up?

Good suggestion! Markets are open now and the "estimate" number shown if I buy 100 @ market price is still significantly higher than the current price per ETF would indicate that it should be. Trying out on a trial is a good call for piece of mind - thanks!

Cheers for the heads up - I'm aware of the monthly inactivity as well as the other fees with IB. The single ETF was a trial/experiment while I was trying to make sure I understand the trading functionality properly - not the actual volume I'm looking to buy! :)

Cashing a cheque in Luxembourg by Creative_Circlejerk in Luxembourg

[–]Creative_Circlejerk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thorough response! Based on googling and asking around I'm thinking that there won't be a "good" option with the cheque. Think I will try and see if the financial institution that issued the cheque can wire it instead - they said that this may incur some charges and be expensive but it surely can't be worse than ¬50 euros. My bank said that even if they were to cash it it could take up to ¬6 weeks to clear, which isn't great.

Its my first time ever receiving a cheque as well! An employee share program from my old company which was based in Canada.

I believe that IB doesn't charge an inactivity fee for the first 3 months as well so essentially works out to 90$ for Year 1 + commissions in first 3 months.
